Quick Update

SAN ANTONIO -- A fairly routine day of day-before-the-title-game interviews here at the Alamodome. The one semi-newsworthy note is that Memphis's Derrick Rose bowed out of interviews (both on the dais and one-on-ones) as he was suffering a stomach ache.

Rose came to the interview room with his four fellow starters but upon ascending the stage he went over to John Calipari, whispered in his ear and the two left the media interview room for 30 seconds. Calipari returned, whispered to the moderator that Rose had a stomach ache and the presser began. Calipari was asked about Rose and explained what he had told the moderator.

Sources within the Memphis staff and around the team have indicated that Rose will be fine. "He doesn't eat well," said one athletic department insider. "That could have something to do with it."

"He will be fine," said another.

Doesn't sound like there's any reason for Vegas to move the line on the game, which sits with Memphis as a 2.5 point favorite.

. . . UPDATE: At about 4 p.m. EDT, Memphis put out a media advisory confirming the above: Memphis freshman guard Derrick Rose was unable to attend Sunday's media sessions due to an upset stomach, as announced by Tigers Sports Information Director Lamar Chance. Rose will play in Monday night's National Championship Game against Kansas.

. . . Check back later today for game preview stories from both Jerry Palm and myself focusing on Kansas's defensive approach to Memphis (Palm) and the parallels between Derrick Rose's freshman campaign and that of Carmelo Anthony.
