Louisiana Tech drops four players

By Bill Hodge - May 22, 2008

# Head coach Kerry Rupp of Louisiana Tech has informed three freshmen, guard Dwayne Lathan of Chatham-West Monroe, La; forward Orren Tims of Ruston, La; and forward Brandon Mims of Shreveport-Evangel Christian, La; along with junior guard Drew Washington of Friendswood-Clear Brook, Tex., that their scholarships would not be renewed for the 2008-09 season. Rupp gave no specific reasoning other than a desire to move the program in a different direction. In Rupp's first season last year, the Bulldogs struggled to a 6-24 finish, including a 3-13 record in Western Athletic Conference games. Lathan, Tims and Washington all played in 30 games, while Mims saw action in 23 contests. The school media relations department released a statement from Rupp: "There are many factors that affect a decision not to renew a scholarship," he said. "High expectations are placed on our student-athletes both on and off the court. This is always a tough decision for a coach, and we wish them the very best in the future."
