Painter headed to the Gators

Deshawn Painter of Norfolk-Booker T. Washington. Va., ranked No. 10 overall in Class 2009, has pledged to the
Florida Gators. He plans to attend Chatham-Hargrave MA, Va., next season.

Jonathan Mitchell of Mount Vernon, NY., who played in 65 games for the Gators over two seasons, is transfering to
Rutgers over Seton Hall and Marshall.

Georgetown gains Vaughn, loses Rivers
# Freshman forward
Julian Vaughn of Vienna, Va/Oak Hill Academy, Va., is transfering from
Florida State to
Georgetown. He played in 31 games this past season.
Sophomore guard
Jeremiah Rivers of Winter Park, Fla., who played in 34 games this past season, is transfering from Georgetown. Sophomore 6-9 forward
Vernon Macklin of Portsmouth-Norcom, Va/Hargrave MA, Va., recently announced he is transfering from Georgetown to
Florida. He also played in 34 games for the Hoyas last season.

Erik Murphy of Southborough-St. Mark's School, Mass., ranked No. 46 overall in Class 2009, has chosen to play for head coach Billy Donovan and the
Florida Gators over Duke. Among others were Boston College, UConn, Marquette, Ohio State and Virginia.

Top guard Strickland picks Heels
# Top 100 guard
Dexter Strickland of Elizabeth-St. Patrick's, NJ., ranked No. 9 in Class 2009, is headed to
North Carolina over Florida and Michigan State. Among many others were Indiana, Arizona, Ohio State, Rutgers and Villanova.
The Heels recently gained three Class 2009 Top 100 forwards, including twins from Santa Ana-Mater Dei, Cal.,
Travis Wear, rated No. 23 overall; and
David Wear, ranked No. 30; plus
John Henson of Round Rock, Tex., rated No. 26.

# The Florida Gators have pledged Top 100 forward Eloy Vargas of Dominican Republic/Hollywood-American Heritage, Fla., rated No. 17 overall in Class 2008, over Florida State, Louisville, Miami-Florida, Pittsburgh and Clemson, among others.

Powell transfers to Marshall from Gators
# Guard Brandon Powell of Memphis-Mitchell, Tenn., who had off-court problems, is transfering from Florida
to Marshall. He played in 23 of 40 games and averaged 1.6 points for the Gators last season as a freshman.
