# Super Prospect linebacker Brian Smith of Overland Park-St. Thomas Aquinas, Kan., has committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes over Kansas State. Among others were Michigan State, Missouri, Nebraska, Arizona State, Kansas and Texas Tech.

# West Virginia has pledged offensive lineman Rodney Hudson of Mobile-Rain, Ala., over Clemson and Mississippi.

# Purdue added a pledge from linebacker Ben Duvall of Owensboro-Apollo, Kty.

# Maryland gained a pledge from defensive back Trenton Hughes of Virginia Beach-Kempsville, Va.

# Colorado pledged offensive lineman Garth Gerhart of Norco, Cal.

# Utah has a commitment from receiver James Carter of Moreno Valley-Canyon Springs, Cal.

# Tulane has a commitment from quarterback Joe Kemp of North Richland Hills-Richland, Tex., over Kansas.

# Eastern Michigan gained a commitment from receiver Trey Hunter of Pemberville-Eastwood, Ohio.

# Akron added Class 2006 defensive back Ryan Brinson of Canton-McKinley, Ohio/Hargrave MA, Va., who had signed with West Virginia, but did not meet academic standards for enrollment.
