N.C. State-Villanova Preview

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The Wolfpack and the Wildcats are readying to close out the Old Spice Classic with the winner gaining some serious momentum heading into the rest of the non-conference season.

No. 20 Villanova (4-0) beat Central Florida and George Mason to reach the championship game, while N.C. State (3-1) posted close wins against Rider and South Carolina.

Tipoff is set for approximately 6:30 p.m. ET.

The Wildcats enter as the favorite looking to keep their top-25 ranking. Point guard Scottie Reynolds directs Coach Jay Wright's young squad -- the team has no seniors -- who lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to Kentucky last season.

Reynolds, the reigning Big East Rookie of the Year, is averaging 17 points per game. Forwards Dante Cunningham (9.3 ppg) and Shane Clark (15.3 ppg) are secondary scorers.

N.C. State, conversely, is looking to get its ranking back after a stunning loss to New Orleans a week ago dropped the Wolfpack from No. 21 to the dreaded "also receiving votes" category.

They return their top three scorers from a year ago, when they reached the third round of the NIT.

However, Returnees Brandon Costner (13 ppg), Gavin Grant (9.8 ppg) and Ben McCauley (4 ppg) are all behind freshman center J.J. Hickson (18 ppg) in scoring thus far.

Hickson started the first two games of the season but has come off the bench here at the Old Spice Classic due to reportedly breaking unspecified team rules.

Perhaps the most intriguing team among the field of eight, Kansas State, lost in the first round to George Mason but won earlier today in a consolation final.

The Wildcats boast the most exciting player in the tournament, hyped freshman Michael Beasley, who scored 30 points in the first two games and tallied 13 in Sunday's win over Rider.

One interesting note from the press room: The tournament is being played at the Milk House at Disney's Wide World of Sports, yet there is no milk among media beverage choices of water, Coke and Gatorade.
