Pitt Shows Surprising Depth

VILLANOVA, Pa. -- Despite the absence of injured players Mike Cook and Levance Fields, Pittsburgh is playing at a very high level.

The Panthers are contesting every single shot by a Villanova player. You wouldn't know they were missing a pair of key ingredients.

Villanova is having trouble with Pitt's defensive pressure as the Wildcats hit just six of their first 31 shots from the field while falling behind 24-16 late in the first half.

One thing about Villanova: this is a very young team and coach Jay Wright understands that he must have patience.

Wright wasn't berating his young team at all. He was on the sideline and constantly encouraging his young 'Cats, a group which does not feature one senior. So was the raucous crowd of 6,500, which included a supportive student section as usual.

Meanwhile, the Panthers don't do anything fancy. They simply play hard, a staple of coach Jamie Dixon.

Please keep checking back for more updates.
