KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- It was only his first SEC game, but Tennessee's Tyler Smith sure made his presence felt. Smith scored the last four points of the game including a layup with four seconds left to give No. 8 Tennessee an 85-83 win over No. 16 Ole Miss. The loss was the first of the year for the Rebels.

The Rebels held an 83-79 lead with two minutes remaining, but the Vols finished on a 6-0 run including the last four by Smith to win the game.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee's Tyler Smith brought Orange Nation back to its feet after his running layup tied the game up, 83-83, with 1:10 remaining. The Vols are in the double bonus, while the Rebels are shooting one and one. Quite a start to conference play for both teams.

UT's Wayne Chism blew a wide open layup on one end and the Rebels' Eniel Polynice took it coast to coast to cut the lead to three. Chism then missed a three-pointer and Kenny Williams' layup put the lead at one.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Ole Miss' Dwayne Curtis just picked up his fourth foul when he bumped Tennessee's Brian Williams. Coach Andy Kennedy has Curtis on the bench for the moment. Curtis has 14 points and nine rebounds and has helped Ole Miss control the offensive glass for most of the night. The Vols lead, 74-66, with 7:41 remaining.
Tonight's attendance at Thompson-Boling was a sellout crowd of 21,804.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee's Chris Lofton hasn't done much tonight, only scoring eight points, but his second three-pointer of the game gave the Vols a double-digit lead. Ramar Smith found Lofton in transition for the shot from the left wing, which brought the UT faithful to their feet.
The Vols have 21 assists on 27 field goals for the game.

Parnell and Chism made contact in the air and Parnell stayed down on the court while his team scored on the other side. Parnell was hobbling pretty bad while he went to the locker room.
Meanwhile, the Vols have extended the lead to 56-48 behind three three-pointers in the first four minutes. JaJuan Smith recently made his fifth three-pointer of the game and has 19 to lead all scorers.

Tennessee's JaJuan Smith and the Rebels' Chris Warren are in a tight battle for the game's top scorer. Both guards have knocked down four 3's apiece, with Smith pouring in 16 total points in the opening 20 minutes to Warren's 15.
All-American guard Chris Lofton has been held to three points in the opening half and didn't score for the first 15 minutes of the game.
The 21,000 UT fans couldn't have asked for a better opening to conference play as both teams have provided plenty of highlights. It only took J.P. Prince a few seconds on the court to bring the crowd to its feet with a thunderous two-handed slam off an alley-oop from Ramar Smith. The Rebels have had their fair share of dunks with center Dwayne Curtis cleaning up down low with seven points and six rebounds.
Ole Miss came into the game as the top rebounding team in the conference and they have continued to do well totaling 11 offensive rebounds to UT's four.
Things to look forward to in the second half: Can Lofton find his shot? He was only 1 of 5 from the field early on and though he drove to the basket constantly didn't get a trip to the free-throw line.
Will the freshman continue to play like an upperclassman? Chris Warren has already reached his 15 point average in the opening half, but has four turnovers to only one assist. He will have to continue to knock down outside shots if Ole Miss is going to pull out this game.

Both teams have had the lead multiple times with neither getting ahead by more than five points. JaJuan Smith leads all players in scoring with 10 points.

The referees are letting them play down low to the disappointment of Volunteer fans. JaJuan Smith recently drove to the basket and got hacked on the wrist pretty bad but nothing was called. All-American Chris Lofton has also been knocked down a few times but nothing has been called. The crowd seems to be getting pretty rowdy in Knoxville.

UT jumped out to an early 6-3 lead but has turned the ball over a few times since then. The one highlight for Bruce Pearl's team thus far has been a monstrous alley-oop from Ramar Smith to J.P. Prince moments after both came into the game, and that jam certainly ignited the Volunteer crowd.
