Survive and Advancing, UT Back to Sweet 16

BIRMINGHAM - Survive and advance.

That's the name of the game this time of year, and that's just what Tennessee did.

Tennessee got a layup in overtime from Ramar Smith with just 27 seconds left, and Jujuan Smith made all four of his free throws in the final seconds to ice the game and give Tennessee a 76-71 win Sunday in Birmingham.

Tennessee will meet the winner of the Louisville-Oklahoma game in the Sweet 16 in Charlotte, N.C.

Tennessee Hangs On in OT

BIRMINGHAM - Ramar Smith made a layup with 27 seconds left and Jujuan Smith made free throws to give the Vols a 4-point lead in overtime.

Julian Betko fouled Jujuan Smith after making one of two free throws with 5 seconds left. Jujuan again made both free throws to stretch the lead out to 5 with just 4 seconds remaining to ice the game.

UT wins 76-71.

More to come from this crazy opener in Birmingham...

UT up 2

BIRMINGHAM - Wayne Chism made a basket, and Tyler Smith blocked an A.J. Graves layup with 35 seconds left. UT has a 70-68 lead with 33 seconds left.

Tennessee has the ball out of a timeout.

Overtime To Settle It

BIRMINGHAM - Willie Veasley had a putback layup after J.P. Prince committed a turnover with 35 seconds left to nod the game at 63. Tennessee played for one shot, but Prince traveled to turn the ball over. Without a timeout, Butler couldn't setup a play. Mike Green and Prince battled down the court and Prince was able to knock the ball free and deny Green a shot as time expired.

We're headed to an extra period in Birmingham... Don't go away.

Nailbiter in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM - Butler had a chance to take the lead, but Mike Green committed a charge.

The turnover led to a missed shot, but J.P. Prince was there for the follow to flush it down and give UT a 3-point lead. It's 58-55 UT with 3:26 left in the game.

This one is going down to the wire... stay tuned.

Vols Still Lead But Can't Put It Away

BIRMINGHAM - Tennessee just had a 7-point lead cut down to four with a three-pointer from Julian Betko as we have just under 8 minutes to go here in Birmingham.

Tennessee had 3 possessions to create a double-digit lead, but couldn't do it. Now, Butler is still very much in the game.

UT Up 5, Butler Hangin Tough

BIRMINGHAM - Butler just got a big three pointer from Drew Streicher to cut the deficit to five points.

Tennessee is still in control, but the Bulldogs are hanging tough with 13:24 to go.

UT Doubles Halftime Lead

BIRMINGHAM - A jumper from Tyler Smith and a dunk by Wayne Chism has UT up 8 right out of the gates on a 4-0 run.

Chism also picked up his 3rd foul and is now out of the game.

Lofton Answers At The Half

BIRMINGHAM - Bruce Pearl pulled Chris Lofton and Wayne Chism out of the game on what was thought to be the last possession of the half. Someone missed an assignment and Pete Campbell was left all alone on the wing.

Campbell drained the trey to cut it down to 1, but Pearl subbed Lofton back in the game.

Butler Bulling Its Way Back

BIRMINGHAM - Looks like I was wrong about my foul trouble strategy. Butler has gotten 5 points from A.J. Graves and a 3 from Pete Campbell to bring them closer to Tennessee.

Jujuan Smith answered the 7-0 run with a nice move in the lane for a shot of the glass, but the Bulldogs are definitely back in it with just under four minutes to go.

UT leads 29-23.

BIRMINGHAM - The fouls are starting to mount, and it looks like that's going to hurt the Bulldogs more than the Vols.

Both teams have key players with two fouls -- Butler's Mike Green and Pete Campbell and Tennessee's Chris Lofton and Wayne Chism.

Graves Can't Find His Shot

BIRMINGHAM - Fresh off a tremendous performance in game one, A.J. Graves has been shut out so far in game two.

The senior guard is 0-for-4 from deep as the Vols maintain control of the game with under 12 to go. Tennessee leads 17-6.

Vols Red Hot...

BIRMINGHAM - The Tennessee Volunteers couldn't buy a 3-point shot in Round 1, but they cannot miss out of the gates.

They are 3-for-4 out of the gates and control an 11-2 lead. Wayne Chism, Chris Lofton and Jujuan Smith have nailed trifectas, and Butler has made several uncharacteristic turnovers. Just under 16 to go...

Tennessee, Butler Ready To Tangle

BIRMINGHAM - Get ready to witness a little history.

In the NCAA Tournament, never have two 30-win teams met as early as the second round. That's what Tennessee and Butler will do in about one hour at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center in Birmingham.

On paper, the game looks to be the most exciting of the Birmingham bracket, with both teams able to throw up points in bunches.

Tennessee Wears Down American

BIRMINGHAM - Tennessee head coach Bruce Pearl said his Vols just out-manned American, literally.

American's star guards Garrison Carr and Derrick Mercer played 40 and 39 minutes, respectively, while Tennessee only had 3 guys plays 30 minutes or more.

"I don't think we played more effectively in the second half," Pearl said. "I think they just got fatigued. We played a lot more guys than they did."

Vols Pull Away, 72-57

BIRMINGHAM - With Tennessee up 7, Tyler Smith fully extended to block an easy lay-up for American's Derrick Mercer. UT's Wayne Chism followed with basket and the foul to stretch the lead to 10 and put the upset-minded American Eagles away for good.

Tennessee on the Ropes

Garrison Carr has just nailed consecutive 3-balls to tie the game at 40 with 11:17 remaining in the game. Even with a large Tennessee contingent, the crowd is really behind the Eagles..

As I type, Tyler Smith calmly drains a mid-range jumper to give UT a 2-point lead. It's 42-40 at the under-12 media timeout. 10:21 left in Birmingham and another 2-seed is on the ropes... Stay tuned.

Still Hangin' Around

A layup by UT's Brian Williams gave Tennessee a 37-34 lead with 13:20 left in the game.

Chris Lofton made a nice pass to J.P. Prince on a fast break, but Nick Hendra pursued for the block to keep it at a 3-point deficit.

The American band struck up Don't Stop Believin again during the break, and the decent-sized American contingent belted out the lyrics. Good atmosphere here at the BJCC...

Not In Here...

Mozambique native and American forward Cornelio Guibanda just swatted Tennessee's J.P. Prince and ran down the court wagging his finger, much like that of Africa native Dikembo Mutombo.

In the meantime, Garrison Carr and Derrick Mercer have nailed 3-pointers and American is within one...

Don't Stop Believin'

The American University band struck up the famous Journey tune, "Don't Stop Believin" before tipoff, and 20 minutes later, I don't think they have.

Losing Control

American's Jordan Nichols was on the receiving end of a tremendous entry pass from Brian Gilmore, but he lost the ball on his way up, subsequently missing an easy game-tying layup. The exchange led to 2 free throws for Chris Lofton to give the Vols a 4-point cushion.

Heating Up

Still only one 3-point field goal for Tennessee, but a couple of mid-range jumpers from Chris Lofton and Tyler Smith have widened the lead out to 5. That's bad news for American, because the odds are the the Vols are about to heat up from outside.

Vols Earn Best Start In School History

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- For No. 7 Tennessee it wasn't how it started, but how it finished in a 104-82 win over Florida Tuesday night. The win moves the Vols to 20-2 on the season, the best start in the program's history.

The Gators jumped out to a 16-3 lead at the start of the game catching the Vols off guard with quick three-pointers and transition layups over the Tennessee press.

"We knew coming out they are a great starting team," JaJuan Smith said. "We knew they were going to come out well, we just told each other to maintain our effort."

The lead didn't last as Tennessee evened things up in the first half then used a barrage of three-pointers and transition points in the second half to break things open against one of their biggest rivals.

Chris Lofton led Tennessee with 26 points and was one of three Volunteers to score over 20. JaJuan Smith added 23 and Tyler Smith scored 21 of his 23 points in the second half, all while playing with three fouls. Lofton and JaJuan Smith combined for 12 three-pointers and made some big shots to extend the lead in the second half.

"In the second half our experience was a factor," Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl said. "With three senior guards and a little bit more depth, playing at home we are supposed to do what we did tonight."

Florida was led by center Marreese Speights who had 23 points and nine rebounds. Freshman guard Nick Calathes had a strong first half scoring 12 points, but only added three in the second half as the Vols limited his open looks from the outside.

Pearl said his team made an effort in the second half to make sure that Calathes didn't get open looks, even comparing the effort to the New York Giant's pressure they put on New England quarterback Tom Brady.

"That is what we said in the second half, we have to get pressure on Brady, pressure on Calathes," Pearl said with a smile.

The game was close during the much of the second half, the Vols were only up five with under 10 minutes to play, but after Florida's Dan Werner was called for an intentional foul against J.P. Prince the momentum began to swing in Tennessee's favor. The Vols closed on a 33-16 run. Prince fell hard to the ground and immediately popped back up and got in Werner's face for the hard contact. Prince was given a technical foul for the confrontation, something coach Pearl was not pleased with after the game.

"You take the foul, get off the ground, dust yourself off, walk to the line. That's part of the game," Pearl said. "I was not happy at how we reacted to that foul."

Luckily for the Vols Calathes missed one of the technical free-throws and the Vols started their run. The Vols were up nine when Lofton hit a fade-away three-pointer with a Florida defender in his face to put the Vols up double digits for the first time. JaJuan Smith then stole the ball on the Gators next two possessions and found Tyler Smith both times for two monstrous dunks.

JaJuan Smith sealed the deal for the Tennessee fans scoring the last five points including a long three-pointer under a minute to go.

Play of the game: Chris Lofton helped start an 11-2 Tennessee run by hitting a step-back three-pointer in the face of a Florida defender. The Vols stole the ball on the next two Gator possessions and turned them into Tyler Smith dunks.

Players of the game: Chris Lofton, JaJuan Smith and Tyler Smith: The Tennessee trio dominated in the second half and were the reason why the Vols managed to pull away at the end. The three combined for 72 points and 12 three-pointers.

Next up for Florida: Saturday vs. Georgia

Vols Win Thanks To Late Surge

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- A close game was blown wide open late as Tennessee won 104-82 over Florida. The Vols used a late 11-2 run to pull ahead for good behind a Chris Lofton three-pointer and two straight steals by JaJuan Smith who found a cutting Tyler Smith for the dunks.

Chris Lofton led all scorers with 26 points and was one of three Volunteers that scored over 20 on the night along with Tyler Smith and JaJuan Smith.

There will be more from Knoxville after the coaches and players teleconference.

Blowout All Of A Sudden

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee just scored eight points in under a minute to take a 97-79 lead. Duke Crews just fouled out on the defensive end, but it looks like the Vols are going to hold on for a big SEC win.

Vols Clinging To Lead

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- It hasn't been a pretty second half for either team as Tennessee holds a 90-79 lead over Florida with 3:41 left. Both teams are battling foul problems, but no one has fouled out yet. Florida has three players on the floor with four fouls each.

Chris Lofton has really stepped up of late hitting a deep fade away three-pointer then faking a shot and finding a cutting Duke Crews for a short jumper.

Fouls Keep Adding Up

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee fans are getting a testy after a hard intentional foul was called on Nick Calathes when he hit J.P. Prince going up for a layup attempt. Prince then got into Calathes' face and and a technical foul was called. Both teams are in the double bonus with 9:18 left. Tennessee leads, 75-68, but at this rate we're going to see a lot of players foul out.

Both Teams In Foul Trouble

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee holds onto a 67-64 lead over Florida, but both teams are in foul trouble and in the double bonus with 10:43 left in the game.

Tennessee's Wayne Chism and Duke Crews just picked up their fourth fouls depleting the Vols post depth. Numerous Florida players have three and four fouls.

Lofton's Three Gives UT The Lead

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Chris Lofton's fourth three of the game has given No. 7 Tennessee a 53-52 lead over Florida. Lofton leads all scorers with 18 points.

The Vols started the second half slowly, but have clawed back forcing the Gators into numerous turnovers. There's 15:54 left in the game.

Gators Take Halftime Lead

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- After a crazy first half the Florida Gators have a 48-44 lead over No. 7 Tennessee.

The Gators jumped out to an 18-5 lead, but saw Tennessee climb back into it and even take a brief lead. Both teams had 30 points int he first ten minutes, but the scoring slowed down a bit in the latter part of the first half.

Tennessee has won three of the last four games against Florida, but were sluggish at the beginning as the Gators had numerous open 3s and layups in transition.

Marreese Speights leads three Florida players in double figures with 15 points. Chris Lofton leads the Vols with 13. Lofton made his first three 3-pointers, but the Florida zone helped slow him down near the end.

Tennessee's Tyler Smith picked up his third foul near the end of the first half, which could be a factor for the Vols. Smith is the Vols third leading scorer on the year.

Tyler Smith Picks Up Third Foul

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee's Tyler Smith just picked up his third foul of the game with 1:36 left in the half. Smith is the Vols leading scorer and is arguably their best one-on-one player. Let's see if Florida can stretch the lead going into the half. The Gators lead, 46-37.

Prince Alley-Oop Gives Vols Lead

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- J.P. Prince has ignited the Tennessee fans with dunk off the alley-oop pass from JaJuan Smith. Prince has eight points on the night.

UT, Florida Hot Early From Field

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee and Florida have both come out scorching from the field. Both teams are shooting over 60 percent as the Gators hold a 32-30 lead with eight minutes left in the first half.

Chris Lofton has 11 early points on 4-of-4 shooting and has knocked down three threes.

Vols Climbing Back

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- It's a high scoring fare at Tennessee as the Vols have climbed back from a double-digit deficit to tie the game at 30-30. JaJuan Smith and Chris Lofton have just hit three huge threes to bring the Vols within three, then Wayne Chism took a shot at the top of the key to tie it up.

Thompson-Boling Arena is rocking right now.

Gators Jump Out To Big Lead

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Florida has jumped out to a 16-3 lead over Tennessee behind some tough defense and numerous fast break layups. Chris Lofton hit a three-pointer early on, but the Vols have failed to score since then missing multiple inside shots.

Gators, Vols Battle For First Place In SEC East

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- After two straight road wins, No. 7 Tennessee returns home to face rival Florida, a game that will determine first place in the Southeastern Conference's Eastern Division.

The Vols hold a one game lead over the Gators in the standings seven games into the conference schedule.

Tennessee has had recent success against Florida beating the two-time defending champions in three of the four last meetings. Their lone loss was a 94-78 setback in Gainesville last season when Chris Lofton was out with a sprained ankle.

After struggling during much of the early part of the season Lofton has returned to form recently, scoring over 20 points in four straight games. Last season's SEC Most Valuable Player is shooting almost 50 percent from three-point range during the stretch. Earlier this season Lofton became the SEC's career three-point leader. His 383 career threes are eighth in NCAA history.

Florida is coming off an 80-61 loss at Arkansas on Feb. 2, a game where they trailed by 25 at the half. This year's team barely resembles the team that cut down the nets the last two years. Ten of the 12 players on this year's team are either freshmen or sophomores.

The Gators aren't without talent though. Freshman Nick Calathes leads Florida in scoring at over 15 points a game. He is one of the many guards that Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl said will give his team problems because of his ballhandling skills.

Tennessee is forcing an average of 20 turnovers a game, but Pearl said on Monday he was worried that Florida could be tough to turn over.

Pearl has played a deep lineup this season. Eleven players average double digit minutes on the year and the team will add another fresh body tonight. Ryan Childress looked like he is back in good health during pregame warmups after he didn't travel to last Saturday's game against Mississippi State.

The Tennessee students have come out early for this SEC battle and have already booed one Florida fan out of the student section. It should be loud in Thompson-Boling tonight as a sellout crowd is on hand to see the two rivals.

Players to watch for: Tennessee's Chris Lofton has finally broken out of an early season slump and has four straight 20-point games.

Florida's Nick Calathes has been one of the best freshmen in the SEC this season. He leads the Gators in points and assists and could be a matchup problem for Tennessee with his 6-foot-6 height.

Vols Win SEC Showdown

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Too much Wayne Chism, too much Tyler Smith. That was the case for No. 16 Vanderbilt Thursday night as they fell to No. 6 Tennessee 80-60. Chism had 18 points and a career high 18 rebounds for Tennessee, the only thing he didn't do well was shoot free-throws, he was 0-for-4 for the game.

Vols Holding On To Double-Digit Lead

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- No. 6 Tennessee has seemed to withstood the Vanderbilt run and currently lead, 70-59, over No. 16 Vanderbilt with 2:19 to play in Knoxville. UT has been unable to make their free-throws to extend the lead. Wayne Chism has 18 points and 15 rebounds for UT, but has missed four straight shots from the charity stripe.

Stallings Teed Up

Vandy Cuts Lead To 11

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- It took Vanderbilt 31 minutes to make a three-pointer, but they've gotten hot lately making three in a row cutting a 21-point lead to eight at 61-53.

UT Opens Up Big Lead

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Chris Lofton has finally started heating up for No. 6 Tennessee as they have opened up a 59-38 lead over No. 16 Vanderbilt. Lofton was held scoreless in the first half but has eight points in the last three minutes.

The All-American went one-on-one with Vanderbilt's Andre Walker and hit a long fade away 3-pointer moments ago to bring 21,000 UT fans to their feet in Thompson-Boling Arena.

Lofton Finally Makes One

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Chris Lofton started the game missing his first five three-pointers, but finally connected on his first shot to give Tennessee a 48-32 lead over Vanderbilt. Lofton has struggled this season from behind the arc making only 33 percent of his shots.

Chism Picks Up Three Quick Fouls

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee's leading scorer tonight Wayne Chism has picked up three fouls in 2:24 to start the second half. The referees have called 13 straight fouls on Tennessee. The Vols lead 40-30 with 16:49 left in the game.

Vols Take Halftime Lead

Vols Up Big Behind Chism's Threes

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Sophomore Wayne Chism is only a 27 percent three-point shooter on the season, but he has hit two big threes early on to give Tennessee a 33-18 lead over Vanderbilt. Chism averages eight points a game and already has 10 tonight.

Vols Use 12-3 Run To Take Lead

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- No. 6 Tennessee has jumped out to a 22-15 lead over No. 16 Vanderbilt thanks to a 12-3 run. Vanderbilt led 12-10, but the Vols capitalized on some Commodore turnovers to get some easy scores. A.J. Ogilvy has just come back in the game with 7:19 remaining in the first. Ogilvy has two fouls.

Ogilvy Picks Up Early Second Foul

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Freshman center may be second in the Southeastern Conference in scoring, but he'll be riding the bench for a while after picking up his second foul with 11:12 left in the first half. Vanderbilt leads Tennessee 12-10 early on.

Ogilvy was caught going over the back of Tennessee's Wayne Chism on an offensive rebound attempt. Both teams have struggled early offensively, neither team is shooting over 40 percent.

Low Scoring Start For UT, Vandy

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Southeastern Conference's top two scoring teams have started out slowly as No. 16 Vanderbilt leads No. 8 Tennessee, 4-2, four minutes in.

Both teams have missed contested shots close to the basket. Freshman A.J. Ogilvy had his first shot in Knoxville rejected by UT's Wayne Chism. The center picked up an early blocking foul and if he gets in foul trouble it could be a concern for Vanderbilt.

Two Ranked Rivals Square Off In Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Two in-state rivals with little past basketball success square off tonight in what could be called the SEC's game of the year. No. 6 Tennessee hosts No. 16 Vanderbilt, who is looking to extend its 24-game winning streak in Thompson-Boling Arena, at 7 p.m. ET.

Neither team has made it to a Final Four, but the two are coming off Sweet Sixteen births a year ago and are among the SEC's top teams this season. This is the first time that both teams are ranked since a 1968 meeting where both teams were in the top 10.

Smith Wins It For Vols

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tyler Smith's first SEC game should be a memorable one as he gave No. 8 Tennessee a 85-83 win over No. 16 Ole Miss, giving the Rebels their first loss of the season. The Rebels held an 83-79 lead with two minutes remaining, but the Vols finished on a 6-0 run including the last four by Smith to win the game.

Tyler Smith Ties Game Up

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee's Tyler Smith brought Orange Nation back to its feet after his running layup tied the game up, 83-83, with 1:10 remaining. The Vols are in the double bonus, while the Rebels are shooting one and one. Quite a start to conference play for both teams.

Ole Miss Takes Lead

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Ole Miss has taken a 83-79 lead with 2:19 remaining. The Rebels are on a 12-2 run. Chris Lofton missed a long three-point shot that would have given the Vols the lead and Ole Miss came down the court to stretch the lead to four. Coach Bruce Pearl put J.P. Prince in the game for Lofton after the miss.

Vols Lead Down To One

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- No. 16 Ole Miss has cut the Tennessee lead to 77-76 with 4:42 remaining. UT's Wayne Chism blew a wide open layup on one end and the Rebels' Eniel Polynice took it coast to coast to cut the lead to three. Chism then missed a three-pointer and Kenny Williams' layup put the lead at one.

Curtis Picks Up His Fourth Foul

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Ole Miss' Dwayne Curtis just picked up his fourth foul when he bumped Tennessee's Brian Williams. Coach Andy Kennedy has Curtis on the bench for the moment. Curtis has 14 points and nine rebounds and has helped Ole Miss control the offensive glass for most of the night. The Vols lead, 74-66, with 7:41 remaining.

Tonight's attendance at Thompson-Boling was a sellout crowd of 21,804.

Warren Ties Career High

Lofton Gives Vols Double-Digit Lead

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee's Chris Lofton hasn't done much tonight, only scoring eight points, but his second three-pointer of the game gave the Vols a double-digit lead. Ramar Smith found Lofton in transition for the shot from the left wing, which brought the UT faithful to their feet.

The Vols have 21 assists on 27 field goals for the game.

Vols Controlling Game

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- No. 8 Tennessee has opened up an eight-point lead over No. 16 Ole Miss, 62-54. Tyler Smith has made two three-pointers in the second half and has 14 for the game as the Vols held the lead for the last five minutes.

Parnell Injures Right Leg

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Ole Miss forward Jeremey Parnell left the game after colliding with Tennessee's Wayne Chism on a blocked shot in the opening minutes of the second half. Parnell and Chism made contact in the air and Parnell stayed down on the court while his team scored on the other side. Parnell was hobbling pretty bad while he went to the locker room.

Meanwhile, the Vols have extended the lead to 56-48 behind three three-pointers in the first four minutes. JaJuan Smith recently made his fifth three-pointer of the game and has 19 to lead all scorers.

Tight Game At Half In Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- It's been a back and forth contest between No. 8 Tennessee and No. 16 Ole Miss as the Vols hold a 45-44 halftime lead. The Vols had an eight-point lead with five minutes left, but Ole Miss went on a 9-0 run to take the lead.

Tennessee's JaJuan Smith and the Rebels' Chris Warren are in a tight battle for the game's top scorer. Both guards have knocked down four 3's apiece, with Smith pouring in 16 total points in the opening 20 minutes to Warren's 15.

All-American guard Chris Lofton has been held to three points in the opening half and didn't score for the first 15 minutes of the game.

The 21,000 UT fans couldn't have asked for a better opening to conference play as both teams have provided plenty of highlights. It only took J.P. Prince a few seconds on the court to bring the crowd to its feet with a thunderous two-handed slam off an alley-oop from Ramar Smith. The Rebels have had their fair share of dunks with center Dwayne Curtis cleaning up down low with seven points and six rebounds.

Ole Miss came into the game as the top rebounding team in the conference and they have continued to do well totaling 11 offensive rebounds to UT's four.

Things to look forward to in the second half: Can Lofton find his shot? He was only 1 of 5 from the field early on and though he drove to the basket constantly didn't get a trip to the free-throw line.

Will the freshman continue to play like an upperclassman? Chris Warren has already reached his 15 point average in the opening half, but has four turnovers to only one assist. He will have to continue to knock down outside shots if Ole Miss is going to pull out this game.

The Bank Is Open For Chism

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Wayne Chism's banked three-pointer from the top of the key has given No. 8 Tennessee a 32-27 lead over No. 16 Ole Miss with 5:47 remaining in the first half.

Both teams have had the lead multiple times with neither getting ahead by more than five points. JaJuan Smith leads all players in scoring with 10 points.

An SEC War

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Ole Miss players were yelling "It's time for war," before the start of the game and it's been just that so far as No. 16 Ole Miss leads, 19-18, over No. 8 Tennessee.

The referees are letting them play down low to the disappointment of Volunteer fans. JaJuan Smith recently drove to the basket and got hacked on the wrist pretty bad but nothing was called. All-American Chris Lofton has also been knocked down a few times but nothing has been called. The crowd seems to be getting pretty rowdy in Knoxville.

Rebels Hot From Downtown

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee is often known for hurting opponents from the outside, but it's Ole Miss that is doing the damage from three-point range tonight, hitting three early shots to take a 15-12 lead. Eniel Polynice has hit two shots and Chris Warren knocked down another one as the Rebels have hurt the Vols in transition.

UT jumped out to an early 6-3 lead but has turned the ball over a few times since then. The one highlight for Bruce Pearl's team thus far has been a monstrous alley-oop from Ramar Smith to J.P. Prince moments after both came into the game, and that jam certainly ignited the Volunteer crowd.

Ole Miss Looks To Stay Undefeated Against Vols

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Two top 20 teams collide tonight on Rocky Top as the SEC schedule gets underway. No. 8 Tennessee hosts one of the surprise teams this season No. 16 Ole Miss, one of six remaining undefeated teams.

Tennessee-Xavier Post-Game Notes

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Not surprisingly, Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl attributed his team's game-winning spurt in the game's final four minutes to superior conditioning.

"In the last couple of minutes our kids pulled together in a very special way," Pearl said of his team's 13-2 run to close the game. "I liked the way we looked and I thought fatigue was a factor [for Xavier]."

Pearl was encouraged by the way his team rallied from a 73-69 deficit.

"In sport, teams pull together or they pull apart at times," Pearl said. " We really pulled together when we got down. I just never saw any doubt in my players' eyes that we were going to win the basketball game. Today was the first day I've seen that look."

The win significantly improves Tennessee's NCAA Tournament resume, Pearl said.

"It's a marquee win for us," Pearl said. "And it would have been a marquee win for Xavier if they would have won."

That if will haunt Xavier for a while, or at least until its game on Friday against Delaware State.

"We lost all concentration at the end of the game, and we can't let that happen," Xavier guard Stanley Burrell said. "When you're up four with 3:41 to go, you don't lose the game."

Unfortunately for Xavier, it did.

No. 12 Tennessee Defeats Xavier, 82-75

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Tennessee put together a 9-0 run in the final three minutes of the game to pull out a score a victory at Xavier Saturday. We'll have a final post after the press conference.

Tennessee Ready To Close It Out

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- No. 12 Tennessee just used a 9-0 run to take control of this game. The Vols lead, 80-75, with 33.9 seconds left. Xavier needs a miracle.

Xavier Leading Tennessee, 73-69

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- It's getting wild here on campus at Xavier. Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl just picked up a technical foul for being out of the coach's box, and Xavier seemingly has the No. 12 Vols on the ropes. But every time it's looked that way, Tennessee has responded.

Case in point: After Xavier made both technical free throws to take a four-point lead, Tennessee stole and inbounds pass and converted. And, on the possession that just led into the under four-minute media timeout, Xavier had a chance to again extend a four-point lead and Derrick Brown was called for a charge as he barrelled down the lane. Tennessee ball, trailing 73-69 with 3:47 left.

Foul Trouble For The Vols

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Tennessee big man Brian Williams just picked up his fourth foul (and nearly got his fifth by arguing the call) on a Xavier put-back attempt. With 7:45 to play, Xavier will shoot two free throws trailing No. 12 Tennessee, 60-59.

Time-out Xavier: Tennessee Leads 60-56

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Tennessee has pulled back in front 60-56 on the strength of a couple of east fast-break baskets. One of the buckets came off a long rebound from a missed three-pointer by Josh Duncan. The Xavier forward continues to come up empty from the outside.

Like Basketball Practice At Moeller H.S.

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- ...except there's 10,000 people watching live and thousands more watching on national TV. But other than that, it's like the good ole days for Tennessee's Ryan Childress and Moeller's Josh Duncan. Those two former high school teammates are battling each other in the post, and each just came up with big baskets against the other.

Childress just scored on and got fouled, which was followed by a technical foul on Xavier coach Sean Miller, who thought Childress should've been called for a charge. Xavier 54-53.

Xavier-Tennessee Tied At 45-45

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- What we've seen through the first 25 minutes of this game has shown why this was the toughest ticket in town this weekend (well, there wasn't much competition for that title -- Bengals vs. Browns doesn't exactly have scalpers salivating). Both teams are flying around, putting their athleticism on display in front of this sellout crowd at Cintas Center. Xavier scored the first four points of the half to take its first lead of the game, but this one has down-to-the-wire written all over it, especially if Stanley Burrell's 3-pointer a few minutes ago gets the Xavier guard going.

Halftime Score: No. 12 Tennessee 39, Xavier 36

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl has to enter the locker room happy that his team has responded to every Xavier run with a big shot to keep the lead. Those big shots include two in the final minute of the half. The first one was luck as 6-foot-9 forward Wayne Chism banked in a three-pointer to break a tie that Xavier's Stanley Burrell had just forced with a three on the Muskies' previous possession.

Then, after an acrobatic tip-in by Xavier's Adrion Graves, Tennessee forward Ryan Childress, playing in the town where he starred at Moeller High School, grabbed a loose ball and layed in a runner from the left side in the closing seconds of the half to give Tennessee a 39-36 halftime lead. You've got to figure the second half will contain more of the same.

Tennessee must continue hitting shots to hang on and win this game, but the Vols have to feel pretty good to have a lead on the road against a Top 25-caliber team while only getting six first-half points from preseason All-American Chris Lofton. If Lofton can locate his shooting touch in the second half, the Vols might be able to pull away.

Similarly for the Muskies, star guard Stanley Burrell offered little in the opening half, scoring only six points of his own and committing three turnovers. Burrell has struggled in big games throughout his career at Xavier, and if Sean Miller and company are going to pull the upset, Burrell must get himself on track.

Xavier also must get something out of forward Josh Duncan, who was 0-for-6 shooting (0-for-4 on three-pointers) and did not score in 16 minutes of play in the half. If Duncan and Burrell combine for only six points again in the second half, Xavier won't win this game. Just as Pearl probably feels good to be up three with little production from Lofton, Xavier coach Sean Miller is likely not disappointed to be down three while getting so few points out of two of his key players.

Tennessee Has 30-25 Lead On Xavier

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Tennessee continues to withstand Xavier's attempts to take the lead. The Volunteers have led the whole way in the first half, despite Xavier cutting the lead to two points once and three points multiple times. The Vols are playing with the type of poise you'd expect out of a national title contender.

One thing to note: Official Joe Lindsay has already given both benches a sideline warning, and he seems liable to hit UT coach Bruce Pearl with a technical at any moment.

Big Swing

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Xavier's brief attempt to capture the momentum just took a big blow as Josh Duncan barely missed an open three that would have cut the lead to one and Tennessee responded with a dunk plus a foul.

Tennessee Leads By Seven

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Tennessee continues to do enough to maintain its lead. Xavier has played hard, but isn't making enough shots to put together a run. Tennessee has kept the Musketeers around by taking some ill-advised outside shots on recent possessions, but that's likely an unavoidable side effect of the Volunteers' fast-paced style of play. Just under eight minutes left in the first half, it's Tennessee 23, Xavier 16.

Timeout Xavier

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Xavier coach Sean Miller just called the game's first time-out after Tennessee extended its lead to 19-8 with 12:21 to play in the first half. The Volunteers' aggressive defense continues to cause Xavier fits, and the Muskies will need more out of Josh Duncan and Stanley Burrell if they're going to hang around in this game.

Tennessee Leads Xavier, 11-6

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Tennessee came out shooting like it practices all week at Cintas Center. Dwayne Chism and Chris Lofton each hit three-pointers as the Vols opened an 11-4 lead on Xavier. The Musketeers have been plagued by turnovers. The atmosphere at Cintas Center is amped up for a game of this magnitude, and the fans seem to be waiting for a Xavier run to get excited.

Xavier-Tennessee Pre-Game Notes

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The wireless is finally up and working here on press row at Xavier's Cintas Center, and we are 10 minutes away from tip-off in the Musketeers' biggest non-conference home game (non-Crosstown Shootout edition) in program history. Xavier hosts No. 12 Tennessee today, and a sellout crowd is expected here on campus. The key to the game might be the play of Xavier point guard Drew Lavender. The Muskies will count on the diminutive floor general to handle the frenetic pace that Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl would like to ramp up in this game. We'll have updates at each media time-out, so stay tuned.

No. 15 Texas Upsets No. 7 Tennessee, 97-78

NEWARK, N.J. -- Well, there you have it folks.

No. 15 Texas just put on an old-fashioned whooping on seventh-ranked Tennessee, and maybe it's not as big of a surprise after the way the Volunteers escaped Friday night against West Virginia with a two-point win.

D.J. Augustin and A.J. Abrams were the Longhorns' one-two punch the whole night for Rick Barnes' squad, and now they'll head back to Austin to face Texas Southern before making their way to Los Angeles to take on No. 2 UCLA Sunday afternoon at Pauley Pavilion in the Pac-10/Big 12 Hardwood Series.

That's a game I'm certainly looking forward to as I'll be back in my old stomping grounds next weekend when the Longhorns and Bruins meet in Westwood, a place I grew up watching games as a kid with my dad.

And if Texas shoots the ball the way it did tonight against Tennessee, Ben Howland's club will be for a dogfight for sure. But the Bruins also haven't lost at home in nearly two years, and with that stiffling defense that UCLA plays game in and game out, it will be an interesting scenario for the 5-0 Longhorns.

Here's some final notes on tonight's championship game, and I'll have more once again in Hang Time for your reading pleasure.

-Legends Classic All-Tournament Team:

Da'Sean Butler, West Virginia
Connor Atchley, Texas
Chris Lofton, Tennessee
A.J. Abrams, Texas
D.J Augustin, Texas (Legends Classic MVP)

-All four of Texas' double-digit scorers finished with 20 or more points. Augustin led the way with 23 points along with eight assists and four rebounds, and Connor Atchley had an impressive 22 points down low to go along with a team-high 11 rebounds. Abrams, who shot 3-for-8 from downtown, and Justin Mason, who shot the ball particularly well in making six of his eight attempts, both finished with 21 each.

-Chris Lofton paced Tennessee with 18 points, but the preseason All-American never broke loose on the Longhorns, as Augustin and Abrams teamed up in defending the senior point guard, who shot 50 percent from the field (5-for-10) and from behind the three-point line (4-for-8).

-JaJuan Smith was one of the three double-digit scorer for the Volunteeers with 13 points, but the 6-foot-2 senior from Cleveland, Tenn., only made four of his 14 field goal attempts and just 1-of-4 threes. Tyler Smith added 11 points, eight assists and eight rebounds in 33 minutes, but Bruce Pearl's team didn't get much else on the interior with sophomore Wayne Chism managing just seven points in 19 minutes and Duke Crews scoring a meager four points in 21 minutes.

-The Longhorns held a 38-30 rebounding edge over Tennessee, as Damion James, despite playing with four fouls, and Abrams both tallied six while Augustin had four. On the other side, Crews pulled down five boards and Chism had four for the Vols, who shot just 38.8 from the field for the game -- quiet a comparison when you look at the Longhorns' 63.6 field-goal percentage along with its 10-for-20 efficiency from behind the three-point line.

-Lastly, the stat sheets that were handed out to the press state tonight's attendance was 4,327. With the way things looked in the crowd, though, The Prudential Center would have been lucky to have had 1,500 for both the consolation and championship games.

Texas-Sized Upset?

NEWARK, N.J. -- The small contingent of Tennessee fans are going to be headed home rather unhappy after the beat down that No. 15 Texas is putting on their seventh-ranked squad.

While the Volunteers have started to hit a few more shots from beyond the arc, they're failing to gain much ground, as Texas has beat its opponent down the floor on the last two possessions and got easy points from the free throw line after drawing fouls underneath the basket.

Connor Atchley has looked impressive in the last five minutes, knocking down a shot in the lane and then a three from the top of the key to push his point total up to 19 on 8-of-10 shooting.

The Longhorns have pushed their lead up to 20 now, 85-65, with just 3:44 left to play in this one at The Rock.

Nothing Going Right For Tennessee

NEWARK, N.J. -- No. 7 Tennessee garnered much of the preseason hype coming into the season as the SEC favorite, but the Volunteers haven't shown much against No. 15 Texas in tonight's championship game of the StubHub! Legends Classic.

The three-point shooting of D.J. Augustin and A.J. Abrams has really been the difference so far, as the two guards have combined for 41 points of Texas' 69 points through 30 minutes of play. Augustin has made four of seven from long range for 22 points, while Abrams has hit three of his attempts from downtown for 19 points.

Connor Atchley is the third Texas player in double figures, tallying 14 points to go along with a team-high 10 rebounds.

No Tennessee player has hit the double-digit point mark yet, but Tyler Smith and Jordan Howell both have contributed nine points for the Volunteers. Smith has a team-leading six rebounds to this point.

We'll see if the Longhorns can continue their hot shooting, with 25 of their first 40 shots (62.5%) going down.

Texas' Lead Increases To Double Digits

NEWARK, N.J. -- No. 15 Texas is keeping a good distance from No. 7 Tennessee right now, as the Longhorns' lead has crept up to 61-48 with 15:37 remaining in the second half.

Chris Lofton has started to get it going a little bit for the Volunteers, but Bruce Pearl's team is still struggling to take care of the ball and penetrate a pretty good defensive front from Texas. That's forced them to take a lot of outside jumpshots, and with the way Tennessee is shooting the ball right now, at just over 40 percent, the Longhorns have a good chance of upsetting the Vols tonight.

D.J. Augustin has just hit a three, and Texas' lead is all the way up to 17 now with the Longhorns leading, 69-52

Texas Leads Tennesssee At Halftime, 50-41

NEWARK, N.J. -- No. 15 Texas has gotten out to a 50-41 lead at halftime over No. 7 Tennessee in the championship game of the StubHub! Legends Classic, and while it may be a surprise to some to see the Longhorns leading, Tennessee hasn't played up to its potential in its first six games this season.

The Volunteers, after all, barely escaped last night with a 74-72 win over West Virginia and now find themselves down by nine with 20 minutes left before heading back to Knoxville for games against North Carolina A&T and Louisiana-Lafayette -- not exactly prime-time competition after the field that the Gazelle Group put together for this annual preseason tournament.

Looking over the halftime stat sheet, dimunitive Texas point guard D.J. Augustin is leading all scorers with 14 points, and Connor Atchley has put together a solid first half with 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting.

For Bruce Pearl's Vols, Tyler Smith and Wayne Chism have each recorded seven points and Chris Lofton, Jordan Howell and Cmaeron Tatum all have six to in the first 20 minutes of action.

The teams are now in their layup lines, so we'll brace ourselves for the second half of this thrilling Top 15 matchup.

Vols, Longhorns Going Back and Forth

NEWARK, N.J. -- D.J. Augustin is having himself a nice game in the first 16 minutes of the StubHub! Legends Classic championship game, knocking down 4-of-5 shots, including both of his three-point attempts, to record 12 points with 3:57 remaining before halftime.

His backcourt mate D.J. Abrams is also starting to put it together from the perimeter, knocking down his last two attempts from three to put the Longhorns up, 43-39, with about three minutes and change left.

Now with 2:11 remaining, Abrams has just hit his third straight three to put Texas up by nine, and Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl is probably giving it to his guys in the 30-second timeout that followed. After the way Abrams stroked the ball against New Mexico State last night, it's amazing that the Volunteers haven't been more conscious of Abrams and his ability to sizzle rather quickly.

Hook Them Horns

NEWARK, N.J. -- The first 10 minutes of the StubHub! Legends Classic has been a high-scoring affair, as No. 15 Texas is out in front of No. 7 Tennessee with a 25-18 lead.

Wayne Chism is leading the way for the Volunteers with seven points, making all three of his attempts from the field, and preseason All-American has chipped in six in the first nine minutes of the game.

Connor Atchley, meanwhile, has got off to a great start for the Longhorns, tallying 11 of Texas' 25 points on 5-of-6 shooting and grabbing a team-high three rebounds.

Neither side has been able to slow the other's offense down and we'll see if both teams can continue their hot shooting -- Tennessee is 11-for-14 (78.6%) from the field while Texas is 7-for-15 (46.7%) -- through the rest of the first half.

Tennessee, Texas Get Going In Championship Game

NEWARK, N.J. -- We're underway in our championship game of the StubHub! Legends Classic at the brand new Prudential Center in downtown Newark, N.J., and so far it's been close between No. 7 Tennessee and No. 15 Texas.

The Longhorns come in after a big 100-87 win Friday night over New Mexico State in the tournament's semifinals, and A.J. Abrams has been a big reason why Rick Barnes' team has gotten off to a 4-0 start to the season. The junior guard has averaged 30.5 points per game and hit 70.8 percent of his three-point attempts (17-of-24) in the last two games. D.J. Augustin hasn't been too bad himself after recording 25 points and 10 assists in Friday's win, his second double-double already of the season.

On the other side, the Volunteers are in tonight's title game after a 74-72 victory over West Virginia with preseason All-American Chris Lofton having his best game of the season so far, leading all scorers with 19 points in addition to three steals. Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl will sure need that kind of performance out of his senior point guard against an even better opponent if he hopes to leave the East Coast with a championship trophy and a 6-0 record to begin the 2007-08 campaign.

Tennessee Beats WVU, 74-72

NEWARK, N.J. -- In a game that saw each team shoot just 39 percent from the field, No. 7 Tennessee felt like it was lucky to walk out of the Prudential Center as winners on Friday night and advance to the Legends Classic championship game against No. 15 Texas Saturday evening.

Leading much of the way, Tennessee found itself unravelling late in the second half and up by seven points. Two straight techinical fouls, one on head coach Bruce Pearl and the other on Wayne Chism, found the game tied. A jumper then gave the Mountaineers the lead, but only briefly.

JaJuan Smith made sure that the Vols weren't going to lose, hitting two straight threes to put Tennessee back up, and coming down the stretch, it was Chris Lofton who hit a three, followed by Tyler Smith hitting free throws to ice the game and put it out of reach, with the Vols hanging on to win 74-72.

It was another off night shooting-wise for Tennessee star Chris Lofton. With so much preseason hype, Lofton has disappointed in the first five games of the season. He shot just 5-for-15, including 3-of-10 from downtown, but did finish with a game-high 19 points thanks to ten trips to the free-throw line, where he converted six times.

Vols Hang On

NEWARK, N.J. -- With Tennessee leading 71-70, JaJuan Smith went to the line for two shots and hit both with 13.2 seconds to play.

Alex Ruoff who had just hit a three pointer the last possession, missed a three pointer short, the Vols grabbed the rebound and JaJuan Smith went back to the line with 3.0 seconds to play.

After missing the first, Smith made the second to ice it, before WVU hit a basket at the end to make the final score 74-72.

Tennessee moves on to face Texas in the championship game, while West Virginia will take on New Mexico State at 4:30pm tomorrow in the consolation game. Be back with more in a little.

Tennessee's Escape?

NEWARK, N.J. -- WVU's Butler missed a jumper from the free throw line which would have tied it, and then WVU fouled Tyler Smith who hit both free-throws to take a 71-67 lead.

Butler then missed a bank shot from just inside the elbow, Chris Lofton grabbed the rebound and Butler picked up the foul with 23.4 seconds to go.

Lofton went to the line for two shots and missed both which gave the Mountaineers some life.

Alex Ruoff then came down the court and nailed a three from right in front of Bob Huggins with 14.2 seconds to play to cut the Tennessee lead to 71-70.

Vols will have the ball.

WVU's Chance

NEWARK, N.J. -- Lofton made his free throws to get the lead back to four, but a nice alley-oop pass from Ruoff to Nichols cut it back to two.

Lofton then missed a long three-pointer, and with the scramble for the ball, Tennessee thought they had it and called a timeout, except the refs called it a jumpball, and with the arrow pointing in WVU's favor, the Mountaineers will have a chance to tie or take the lead with 55 seconds to play after this full timeout with Tennessee leading 69-67.

Free Throws

NEWARK, N.J. -- Wellington Smith nailed a three-pointer to cut the Vols lead to 67-65 with 1:30 to go.

Tennessee came back down the other way and with Lofton driving to the hoop, he was fouled and will go to the line for two critical free-throws with 1:26 to play.

Lofton Clutch

NEWARK, N.J. -- This isn't exactly the way that he had drawn it up, but I guess coach Bruce Pearl will take it. Chris Lofton just nailed a three-pointer, only his second of the night, giving Tennessee a 65-60 lead with 2:47 left.

On the ensuing possession, WVU missed two threes, and Lofton was able to grab the long rebound on the last, giving Tennessee the ball with the under 4 minute timeout and a five point lead.

Patience Pays

NEWARK, N.J. -- This has turned into a sloppy, hard-foul affair as we are under four minutes. Tennessee is clinging to a lead, as the Vols have fallen victim to a whole host of turnovers and more fouls.

West Virginia's patience has paid off, as they cut the lead to one with 4:30 to go, and currently trail 62-60.

A Bit Out Of Hand

NEWARK, N.J. -- The game's third technical foul was called at about the nine minute mark, and this time it was on WVU head coach Bob Huggins. Once again, it was a disagreement with a foul call.

That just riled up the crowd of 5,310 that is on hand. They are starting to get a little bit out of hand.

You know it's been a long night when the fans start losing their voices yelling obscenities. Since the crowd has thinned out, everyone can hear everyone, if you know what i mean.

The guys out on the court are going to have to put that lesson they learned about not responding or aknowledging those types of fans, to work tonight.

As for the game, Tennessee still can't pull away from WVU, but they do lead 58-52 as we're under 8 minutes to play now.

Back And Forth

NEWARK, N.J. -- Since West Virginia took the lead 41-39, Tennessee has bounced back thanks in large part to JaJuan Smith waking up. After having just two points in the first half, Smith now has 10, after hitting back-to-back three-pointers, as the Vols lead 50-45 with 11:26 to play.

The run was highlighted by an alley-oop pass to Duke Crews, who scored his first basket of the night.

With the uppper deck closed off with black curtain, you can't get a true sense of how nice and big this place is. But one thing's for sure, it's not as big and cavernous as where the Devils use to play, the Izod Center (Continental Airlines Arena).

T Is For Tennessee

NEWARK, N.J. -- In what could be a game changing moment, Wayne Chism was called for his second foul a moment ago, which was followed by a nice tirade from Tennessee head coach Bruce Pearl. West Virginia capitalized on all four free throws, to cut the lead to two.

Then on the ensuing Tennessee possession, Chism lost the ball out of bounds and picked up a technical foul of his own. Ruoff for WVU hit two more free throws, and they scored on the next possession, to take the lead, 41-39.

Tennessee has no one to blame but themselves for losing their composure and allowing Tennessee to hit seven straight free throws.

Ramar Smith just hit a three-point play the old fashioned way to retake the lead for Tennessee, 42-41. It's a tight one with 14 minutes left.

Vols Up At Half

NEWARK, N.J. -- We've reached halftime in the nightcap, and Tennessee leads West Virginia, 33-28. Unlike the first game of the night which featured 29 combined three-pointers, we've seen a whole different type of game in the first half of this one with only three three-pointers for each team, going a combined 6-for-24 from downtown. So much for my theory about these friendly rims.

Smith Is Common

NEWARK, N.J. -- Compared to the first game of this doubleheader when we had about a combined 50 points at this point, Tennessee leads West Virginia just 11-8 with eight minutes gone by.

Round Two From Newark

NEWARK, N.J. -- As Texas and New Mexico State exit the court, No. 7 Tennessee and West Virginia take the court for what should be quite a battle.

The Vols are another team coming off of a 100 point performance, beating Middle Tennessee State on Nov. 20, 109-40. Led by a couple of seniors, JaJuan Smith and Chris Lofton in the backcourt, the Vols are 4-0 under third year head coach Bruce Pearl.
