Well, This Is A New Experience

By Elliot Olshansky - December 08, 2007

I'm typing this in the front seat of my car - which is parked, I hasten to add - outside the Olympia Ice Center, just over an hour after RIT finished off a 5-0 win over American International.

I was blogging the game live over at Power Plays and was working on my postgame wrapup when a member of the rink staff informed me that I had to leave, because they had to close the building.

Now, I know I'm often the last to leave, but this was a new one on me. I half wanted to be like Herb Brooks in Sweden after the exhibition and tell the guy to leave me the keys and I'd lock up (if that part of Miracle is actually true; I know other parts of that scene aren't entirely accurate), but clearly, this was not a guy who spends much time reading college hockey blogs, so I couldn't pull out the "semi-renowned Internet writer" card to buy myself more time.

So, here I am sitting in my car, pulled up as close to the building as possible so I can still use their wireless.

I thought you might like to know.

And here are a few more things you might like to know.

- Before the RIT-AIC game, I was at the Yale-Brown game at Ingalls Rink, which resembled a multiple car pile-up on I-95 early on, then started to look more like a human demolition derby as the game went on, with even assistant referee Paul Simeon getting knocked over. Amazingly, despite the physicality, there were only five penalties called in the first two periods before things got plain ol' ugly in the third, with eight infractions, including a pair of 10-minute misconducts (more on those shortly) in the final frame. Yale won 2-1 on Sean Backman's 5-on-3 power-play goal with just 54 seconds remaining, in what was really an entertaining battle.

More later..my computer is almost out of power.
