Massachusetts Misery

When Jerry York sat down for his press conference after a win over Boston University in the Beanpot on Monday, there was still a hint of sadness from the previous night.

I believe his exact words were, "I'm still kind of bummed out about our Pats. This takes a little sting out of it."

Lucky Eagles, getting to lose that sting.

Sunday night, I had the privilege of joining the River Hawks of UMass-Lowell for their improvised Super Bowl party on their way back from Burlington after their game against Vermont.

You can click here for that video, including an interesting revelation from head coach Blaise MacDonald.

Of course, those trifles are nothing compared to the news out of Blaise's old stomping grounds at Boston University this afternoon...

I was talking with Jack Parker for my weekly column, when he said, "We just had an unfortunate thing. Matt Gilroy just went down today in practice with a high ankle sprain. He's going to be out at least three weeks, so that's going to hurt us.

It seems to be a case of "What next?" for the Terriers, but the veteran head coach is staying positive.

"When we play well," Parker said, "we're as good as any team in the league, so it wouldn't be unbelievable for BU to win Hockey East. We still have our best hockey ahead of us, I believe."

More to come tomorrow on the Terriers and the other Beanpot participants.
