Big 12: Georgia On their Minds

SAN ANTONIO -- Oklahoma State will open its season with a bang, traveling to Georgia to take on a national contender in Athens, and the Cowboys couldn't be more excited.

"I love the idea," wide receiver Adarius Bowman said. "I wish we could get a lot of other teams like that on there. My biggest thing, I've never played for a ranked team. You see all the same teams getting ranked every year, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, Miami, USC, and I feel like a team like Oklahoma State, if we want to be ranked we’ve got to beat teams like Georgia, Texas, OU. I like our schedule a lot."

Head coach Mike Gundy has used the season opener to keep his staff working throughout the summer.

"As everybody knows, we don't have a warm-up game," Gundy said. "By having Georgia as an opener I think it's kept us focused as a staff."

Also keeping the staff focused is the history of questionable defenses at Oklahoma State. New defensive coordinator Tim Beckman, formerly of the other OSU in Columbus, has already made some changes and brought a new mentality to a defense that allowed more than 500 yards of offense to three separate opponents last season. The Cowboys' offense, which returns almost all of its skill-position players, will be expected to carry the defense for at least part of the season.
