Big 12: Quick Learner

SAN ANTONIO -- While players across the country are trying to finagle their way into extra years of eligibility, Texas A&M quarterback Stephen McGee is on the accelerated track to graduation.

The second-year starter for the Aggies has two years of eligibility remaining, but thanks to a rigorous academic program, he will receive his degree in about two weeks.

"I never even realized I could do it until about two semesters ago, that I could graduate early," McGee said. "I figured I might as well get it over with. I just kept taking classes and took care of business like I thought everybody else was."

Taking 12-15 credit hours each semester along with summer school each session, the business and marketing major is in the clear academically and, apparently, financially.

"The good thing about that is the more school you take, the more scholarships you can get, so it pays to be in school," McGee said.
