Cushing in Locker Room, USC on a Roll
Categorize this under the last news that USC fans want to hear. Star linebacker Brian Cushing went to the locker room, presumably to have his ankle checked on. I'll update as soon as we hear any news.
Everything else is going the Trojans' way, though.
USC is three for three in drives so far and holds a 21-0 lead with 12:24 left in the second quarter. So far John David Booty is 8-of-10 for 90 yards and two touchdowns while C.J. Gable and Stafon Johnson have combined for 94 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.
And on Idaho's third drive, the dominant USC defense everyone expected came to play. The Vandals got a quick first down, but consecutive plays for negative yardage left them at third and 27 on their own nine yard-line. They didn't get the first down.
And in all rights, USC should have been credited with a defensive touchdown on an apparent Rey Maualuga interception that he took to the end zone. But the refs called Idaho's Stanley Franks down for a 13-yard loss before he dumped the ball right to Maualuga on first down. I didn't see his knee touch the ground.
It didn't really matter though, as cornerback Shareece Wright absolutely leveled Idaho's Deonte' Jackson four yards behind the line of scrimmage on the next play to set up the desperation third and 27 that went nowhere. It didn't take long after the Vandals punted for the USC offense to score again.
