Deacons Want To "Paint It Black"

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- In what is technically still known as Groves Stadium, it's filled to capacity and then some, much of it Nebraska red.

Some 5,000 or more Husker fans, who always travel well, are in the stadium that will change its name to BB&T Field at Wake Forst University in 2008, when the renovations are complete.

One clever touch before the kickoff: The Wake Forest sound system blaring Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones singing "I see a red door and I want to paint it black."

The Husker Nation, which bought 1,000 Wake season tickets, had somethng to cheer about early when linebacker Corey McKeon intercepted a Brett Hodges pass at Wake's 37. That eventually led to a 37-yard field goal, and the Deacons had to feel good about givng up just three points.

Wake missed a big chance early when a wide-open Kevin Marion dropped a sure TD pass from Hodges. The Deacons cmae up with a Nebraska fumble at the Husker 38. After driving to a first-and-goal at the 2, Wake had to settle for Sam Swank's field goal to tie the game 3-3 early in the second quarter.
