First Qtr Recap: Badgers & Hawkeyes

MADISON, Wisc. -- Here are the numbers for the first quarter: Iowa, 17 plays, 10 yards. Wisconsin 16 plays, 33 yards. Ugh. Here are a few notes from the first quarter ..

As bad as those numbers looked, Badger quarterback Tyler Donovan has looked even worse. A first quarter fumbled appears to have shaken the Badger QB, and to win Wisconsin will need Donovan to find open passing lanes against an aggressive Hawkeye defense. So far that hasn't happened enough.

On the opposite sideline, Jake Christensen has done very little, but escape the pocket only to find no more running room on the outside. The Hawkeyes are rushing their attack, and must settle and operate with patience.

Special teams has been the lone bright spot for Wisconsin. Punter Ken DeBauche has turned ugly field position, and Ben strickland made an impressive downfield tackle on punt coverage.

Iowa's backfield has not been too productive: Albert Young has 16 yards, Damian Sims has negative-three.
