Hot and Heavy

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass - A trio of Massachusetts' finest escorted Tom O'Brien on and off the field at halftime, shielding him from the audible boos (thus far no projectiles) in the student section. But it's a trio of interceptions that have been the bigger issue today, with NC State's Harrison Beck throwing all three at key times.

With BC up 17-10, this game could go either way. Here are a few things to watch for as we get set to kick off.

NC State needs to: Stop making mistakes. The interceptions have been killer, and the Wolfpack would be winning without them.

BC needs to: Tighten up on defense. O'Brien and NC State offensive coordinator Dana Bible have shown their familiarity with BC defensive coordinator Frank Spaziani and have found more than a few holes. Beck has made some bad throws, but he's also shown he can get the ball downfield given the chance.

Match-up to watch: Beck v. Matt Ryan. These two won't be on the field at the same time, but the one who plays better will probably get his team win. Beck has thrown for 224 yards, but his 3 interceptions have been killer. Ryan hasn't been in rhythm with his receivers all game, and will have to play better.

Hidden key: The heat. It's 126 degrees on the field. The Boston fans, not used to this heat, have stuck out the game thus far and kept the stadium relatively full. Whether either team starts to wear down in the fourth quarter remains to be seen.

Prediction: Ryan is too good to be this bad. He should get back in rhythm, and if he does, expect BC to open up a solid margin .
