More Important Than It Seems

BLACKSBURG, Va. - One of the most important drives of the day for Virginia Tech just ended with a 25-yard punt by Brent Bowden from the 34-yard line.

It may not have put points on the board, but East Carolina's gameplan is history.

The drive started at the Virginia Tech 17 and ended at the ECU 34. More importantly, it took five minutes off the clock, leaving 5:19 on the clock.

Needing two scores to tie or win this game, the Pirates can no longer rely on runs and short passes. The Pirates' hopes now rely on the inexperienced arm of Patrick Pinkney, which is something that the Pirates have wanted to avoid all day. With the Hokie Nation jangling its keys on every third down, the intensity is running high here at Lane Stadium, which is going to make things awful tough on a young quarterback trying to make big plays against one of the best secondaries, year in and year out, in the nation.
