One For One

BLACKSBURG, Va. - It's 3-0 Hokies on the first career attempt by senior kicker Jud Dunleavy, capping a 14-play drive by the Hokies that lasted about six minutes.

Big things to note for the Hokies on the drive:

- The first completion for Glennon, for 29 yards to Sam Wheeler. After an interception to start the day, having the first completion be a big one is a definite shot in the arm for Glennon's confidence.

- A two-yard run by Branden Ore on fourth-and-1 at the 43-yard line. A big of a risk for Virginia Tech early on, but the sort of thing you can do at home, because the reward is so much greater than the risk.

- The kick by Dunlevy. While I'm sure that everyone in maroon and orange would have rather Josh Hyman taken his 37-yard reception from Glennon all the way into the end zone, it's good for a new kicker to get off to a strong start on a makeable kick, rather than to have to start out with a long kick in a higher-pressure situation.

It is worth noting, though that the Pirate defense didn't roll over in the red zone, with Scotty Robinson leading the way on a sack of Glennon. Good thing for ECU, too, because in addition to the four points, this crowd is ready to explode, and a touchdown would have given them that opportunity.
