Pirates Power Through

BLACKSBURG, Va. - East Carolina leads, 7-3, as Chris Johnson finds the end zone on a two-yard plunge 37 seconds into the second quarter.

Big things for ECU on the drive:

- The way it started, on a fumble by Branden Ore and recovery by Jerek Hewett. It's the second turnover by the Hokies on the day, and that's not someplace the Hokies want to go.

- The big runs by Lindsay and Johnson. ECU is reluctant to put the ball in the air - and rightly so - so big runs are a must for the Pirates' upset hopes. So far, so good in that department.

The atmosphere here right now is fairly subdued at the moment. It's like the crowd is waiting for an opportunity to really let loose, and it hasn't happened yet. There have been near misses - the almost-pick by Parker, the catch-and-stumble by Hyman - but Virginia Tech ahsn't really gootten rolling here as of yet. One would think that it's coming, but no one ever knows in football.
