Run Tigers Run

BATON ROUGE, La. - It's about time kickers got some respect.

LSU's Colt David just earned some 20 minutes ago with a 13-yard touchdown run that gave his Tigers a 21-7 halftime lead over No. 12 South Carolina.

David took a pitch from Matt Flynn and dashed toward the right corner of the endzone. The run was David's first rushing score of his career.

His rush also added to LSU's total yardage. The Tigers outgained the Gamecocks 273-89 in the first half.

Most of the damage has come on the ground, with LSU rushing for 217 yards in the first half. South Carolina entered the game last in the SEC in rushing defense, and that obviously has been the area LSU has chosen to attack coach Steve Spurrier's squad.

South Carolina began the game confident and even scored the first points of the contest on Mike Davis' 1-yard touchdown run.

But that confidence has turned to uncertainty. Gamecocks' quarterback Blake Mitchell has been sacked twice and thrown one interception.

South Carolina has also lost one fumble in the first half.

Look for LSU to continue to run the ball extensively against the Gamecocks' defense. If they do so effectively, this one could get out of hand in a hurry.

NOTES: LSU quarterback Matt Flynn is 6-of-14 passing for 56 yards and a touchdown ... This is the first time South Carolina has trailed at halftime this season ... The Gamecocks' potent rushing duo of Mike Davis and Cory Boyd have combined for 22 yards on 12 carries ... LSU backup quarterback Ryan Perrilloux has gained 54 yards on five carries.
