Run and Shoot: SEEING "BIG RED"

« Rice Makes Nice | Main | Deacons Want To "Paint It Black" »

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- What is still technically known as Groves Stadium is full -- with a healthy dose of Nebraska fans, maybe 5,000 or more.

The Husker fans, who always travel well, snapped up their allotment and also bought about 1,000 Wake Forest season tickets. They've had something to cheer for early after turning an interception by linebacker Corey McKeon into a field goal. Wake actually must feel pretty good about holding the Huskers to three there after turning the ball over on its own 37.

Next season, this venue will be known as "BB&T Field at Wake Forest University" as the naming rights have been sold. The stadium is being renovated for 2008 with a new addition called Deacon Tower that will include a new press box and luxury boxes. But they're already calling it by the news name, and every seat (all bleachers) has a BB&T logo taped to the back.

Wake's best chance will be the hope that Nebraska is looking forward to next week's game against Southern Cal in Lincoln. But the Huskers will have to do more than go through the motions to win today.

One clever thing before the game: The sound system blared Mick Jagger's "I see a red door and I want to paint it black" just before kickoff.
