USC-Nebraska: Three hours before Cornhusker Armegeddon

It's still three hours before kickoff and the Nebraska band is out practicing to a smattering of people in the stands.

This is the look of things from the press box right now, but imagine how wild this place will be with the endless amounts of red slapdashed all over the stadium. Last year's NU-Texas game was supposed to be the loudest this stadium has been since the 1978 Oklahoma game, so we'll see if it gets louder tonight.

Speaking of the 1978 Nebraska-Oklahoma game, that's the last time a No. 1 ranked team has visited Memorial Stadium. Here's a framed picture of the Sports Illustrated that came out the week after the No. 4-ranked Huskers beat the top-ranked Sooners.

This picture is framed and hung right outside the elevator doors in the media section of the press box. On that cold day in November of 1978, Rick Berns, the cover boy, ran for 113 yards and the under-talented Huskers upset the Sooners 17-14 with the help of six Sooner fumbles.

Oh and this is Husker weather here today. Under a battleshhip grey sky, the temps are hovering just above 50 degrees at the time. For reference sake, the weather in Gainesville for the Tennessee-Florida game is currently 90 degrees with 60% humidity. Oof!
