Coming Out of the Half

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Thanks to a score :15 left in the second half, the Gamecocks open the second half with a 21-3 edge. The No. 7 team seemingly have the game under control. The Gamecocks averaged better than five yards per carry and Chris Smelley was an efficient 14-of-19 for 136 yards and three touchdowns.

On the other end, the defense has held UNC at bay for the most part, buckling down whenever the Tar Heels enter Gamecock territory. T.J. Yates was pressured into two picks in the first half and might find it even more difficult to move the ball in the second half. Leading receiver Hakim Nicks is questionable to return and deep threat (and special teams returner extraodinaire) Brandon Tate is out. The Tar Heels hung tough for a while, but with the offense handicapped, this could turn into a rout.
