KU-A&M: Not what you'd expect

COLLEGE STATION, Tex. -- At the end of a quarter, Texas A&M and Kansas are still scoreless.

But things aren't going as expected here.

Coming into the game, Texas A&M's defense ranked 100th nationally in passing defense, 96th in pass efficiency defense, and 110th in sacks.

So naturally KU QB Todd Reesing took the very first snap of the game... and was sacked. Then on the next play, he was sacked again. Facing a 3rd-and-an-acre, Reesing managed a one-yard pass. Unfortunately for A&M, a roughing the passer penalty let the Jayhawks off the hook and out of a deep hole.

At the end of the first quarter, Reesing is 3-for-5 for only 18 yards.

The Jayhawks did control play and 8:32 of the clock thanks to 101 yards rushing. (A&M is allowing only 135 yards rushing per game this season of course.) Brandon McAnderson has 94 of that on only seven carries. The Jayhawks actually drove the ball into the red zone on their second possession, but had a field goal attempt blocked.

A&M can't get anything going. Stephen McGee is only 3-6 for 12 yards, and the usually-powerful Aggie rushing attack has netted only 40 yards.
