More breathing room...for now

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Matt Ryan connected on three passes, including a heave while being decked that barely fell into the arms of Kevin Challenger, who snuck in to put BC up 27-14.

After having a pass returned for an interception, Ryan seemed determined to get BC a more comfortable lead, needling two passes over the middle and scrambling for four yards. The 13-yard touchdown was classic Ryan: taking the hit in the pocket, and putting the ball perfectly where his receiver's route should end. From there, Challenger made a great catch and nice move around the ND corner.

The touchdown sucked a bit of the life out of the ND crowd, but there's still a sense that the Irish now have a shot in this game down two scores.

One thing to look for: All-American cornerback DeJuan Tribble, despite picking off Clausen in the first half, seems to be a target Charlie Weis is picking on. Tribble is shorter than most of ND's receivers and Weis may have seen something he thought he could exploit.
