Final score: Maryland 42, Boston College 35

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Final score: Maryland 42, Boston College 35. Talk about a shocker.

The yellow-jacketed security guards were no match for the herd of students rushing the field to celebrate with the Terrapins.

It wasn't just that Maryland beat No. 8 Boston College. It was the way the Terrapins won. They completely outclassed the Eagles in every facet of the game. The score was by no means an indicator of how this game played out. Coming in, the Terps were a desperate team, but so banged up that it was hard to imagine this happening.

Boston College has got to be wondering what happened. It is officially out of the national title picture, Matt Ryan probably will no longer be mentioned in the same sentence as "Heisman" and the Eagles could even end up in the Champs Sports Bowl or Music City Bowl instead of the Orange Bowl or Gator Bowl. Man-oh-man, what a reversal of fortunes in an eight-day span.

Player of the game: Maryland quarterback Chris Turner. The sophomore signal-caller had the best game of the season and of his career. He threw for 337 yards and directed the offense almost flawlessly.

Play of the game: Turner's 57-yard screen pass to running back Da'Rel Scott, his only touch of the game. Scott got a block and took off down the left sideline pretty much untouched. It put the Terps up 34-21, sent the crowd into a frenzy, and Maryland never looked back.

Next up: Boston College at Clemson, next Saturday, 7:45 p.m. EST; Maryland at N.C. State, next Saturday, noon EST.

I'll be back after the post-game press conferences with a more in-depth wrap-up.
