Gearing up for the Border Showdown

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kickoff of the biggest college football game of the season is just minutes away and the atmposphere at Arrowhead Stadium is electric.

Traffic is backed up on the Interstate for miles and tailgate parties stretch as far as the eye can see outside of Arrowhead. ESPN's College GameDay is in attendance along with about 80,000 rabid fans of the two squads.

The No. 2 Jayhawks are currently 11-0 and fighting to stay undefeated against the 10-1 No. 4 Missouri Tigers. The winner will move into the No. 1 spot in the BCS Rankings, move on to the Big 12 Championship and keep its hopes alive for a National Championship run,

The game features two high-octane offenses. Missouri is led by junior quarterback Chase Daniel, who has thrown nine interceptions and 30 touchdowns - he's good enough that flyers are being distributed in the press box touting his Heisman candidacy. Sophomore Todd Reesing is Kansas' undersized but overperforming leader. The Austin, Texas, native has not thrown an interception in six games. Jeremy Maclin is Missouri's favorite weapon. The speedy wide receiver/kick returner set the NCAA freshman total yardage record last week and will be the focus of the Kansas secondary.

Kansas' best weapon is its defense. The Jayhawks are seventh in the nation in stopping the run and are among the country's leaders in interceptions. They will have to contain Maclin and Mizzou tight ends Chase Coffman and Martin Rucker in order to hold the Tigers under 30 points.

Arrowhead is almost full and the game's about ready to get under way.
