Mizzou misfires early

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Missouri blew a perfect scoring opportunity by getting greedy and attempting a fake field goal.

Missouri got a 43-yard punt return by Jeremy Maclin to move into field goal position with about eight minutes to play in the first quarter. After moving the ball to the Kansas 22-yard line, Missouri faced a fourth-and-12 situation and a chip shot for kicker Jeff Wolfert. Instead of opting for the easy early score, Missouri coach Gary Pinkel called a fake. The Tigers' holder threw a pass to Will Franklin on the left sideline. Franklin broke for the first down marker but only made it seven yards before a host of Jayhawks coralled him. Kansas did not score on its next possession, so the score is still knotted at 0-0 late in the first quarter.
