Thrilling Finish

LAS VEGAS - BYU added another miracle finish to its memory book this season.

BYU freshman nose tackle Eathyn Manumaleuna extended his right hand and partially blocked Kai Forbath's game-winning field goal attempt as time expired to give No. 19 BYU a 17-16 victory over UCLA in the Las Vegas Bowl.

Forbath had been Mr. Automatic all night with three field goals, including two of 50 yards or longer. But the Cougars were able to celebrate at Sam Boyd Stadium because of a ferocious surge.

BYU's other thrilling ending was a 4th-and-18 completion in the final minute of the Utah victory.

UCLA played inspired football, which had been a question mark coming into the game. The Bruins also gave interim head coach DeWayne Walker a great audition for the permanent job.

The players pushed hard for Walker in the postgame press conference to get the job and AD Dan Guerrero heard every word.
