Rutgers in control at halftime, but Cardinals hanging tough

TORONTO, On. - Despite being outplayed by a significant margin, the Ball State Cardinals aren't out of the International Bowl just yet.

The Cardinals added their third field goal of the game, a 32-yarder by Ian McGarvey, on the final play of the first half to cut Rutgers' lead to 24-9 at halftime. The Cardinals had just 40 seconds to get into field goal range after Ray Rice put the Scarlet Knights up 24-6 with his second touchdown rush of the game.

If the Cardinals hope to stage a second-half comeback, they are going to have to do a much better job defensively.
The Scarlet Knights had 282 yards of offense in the first half, with Rice doing a good chunk of damage.

Offensively, the Cardinals have to start scoring touchdowns instead of field goals. While they did well to get three points to cap the first half, they have struggled deep in Rutgers territory.
