Run and Shoot: The big question

The big question

GLENDALE, Ariz. - Oklahoma just scored. The Sooners went on an 80-yard march. Went for two, missed. West Virginia leads 20-15 and it appears clear, the more capable team is finally coming forward. Just maybe, OU will pull this game out. But it will mean ending all the steps backward.

And wouldn't you know it, it took OU one play to screw things up again.

Finally flexing their muscles, the Sooners attempted an onside kick. Not only did they not recover. It did not go 10 yards.

Already this half, OU has taken two costly penalties, one of them helping the Sooners to settle on a field goal. As for OU's only touchdown, the drive very nearly did not happen because Dominque Franks tried fielding a punt over his shoulder at the 9-yard line. He muffed it and the Sooners were fortunate to receive a touchback.

The mistakes have to end for OU to come all the way back.

With 3:34 remaining in the third quarter, in part because of the failed onside kick, West Virginia has pushed the lead back to 12 points, Pat White having run it in from 17 yards.

The big question.

Can OU get out of its own way?

So far, no.
