Big XII: Pre-Season Poll, All-Conference Teams Announced

By Jean Neuberger - October 18, 2006

For those of you keeping track of what's going on here in Oklahoma City, here's a quick look at the pre-season standings, as well as a quick rundown of the Big XII pre-season All-Conference team.

The pre-season standings are as follows...

1. Oklahoma (11) 121 pts.
2. Texas A&M (1) 107 pts.
3. Texas 101 pts.
4. Baylor 94 pts.
5. Iowa State 68 pts.
6. Nebraska 66 pts.
7. Kansas State 57 pts.
7. Texas Tech 57 pts.
9. Missouri 43 pts.
10. Kansas 36 pts.
11. Colorado 26 pts.
12. Oklahoma State 16 pts.

As coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team, it looks like we not only know who Sherri Coale picked, but who everyone else picked as well!

Here's a look at the all-conference team...

G - Lyndsey Medders, Iowa State (5-9 Sr.) - led NCAA with 7.7 assists/game
G - Keira Hardy, Nebraska (5-6 Sr.) - Averaged 17.5 points/game
C - Courtney Paris, Oklahoma (6-4 Soph.) - Everyone's worst nightmare (21.9 points, 15 rebounds, 3.3 blocks per game)
F - Tiffany Jackson, Texas 6-3 Jr.) - Led the 'Horns in scoring for the last three seasons
F - Morenike Atunrase, Texas A&M (5-10 Jr.) - Led Aggies in points per game (14) and blocks for the season (58)

To nobody's surprise, Paris was named pre-season Player of the Year.

However, expect a lot of competition for these five slots when the season ends, especially from Clare Coggins of Kansas State, Bernice Mosby of Baylor, and Britany Brown of Oklahoma.
