SEC: Welcome To Birmingham

By Doug Kroll - October 25, 2006

She's On Fire has landed in the city that is the home to the SEC headquarters, and after a full day of interviews and presentations, it's almost time for sleep (before rounds 3 and 4 in the morning). But first I thought I would share All-SEC players, new rules, facts and figures before i hit the sack. So here it goes.

First here are some facts that SEC Commissioner Mike Slive told the gathered media this morning.

-This will be the 25th season of SEC Conference play.
-SEC teams have won 6 titles, have been the National Runner-Up 10 times, 30 teams have made it to the Final Four (17 more than the 2nd most conference).
-50 First team All-Americans
-6 Naismith Award winners
-93 WNBA players in its 10 year history
-An SEC team has always been ranked in the 442 week history of the Women's AP Poll
-42 of a possible 60 starters return this season
-There are five ranked teams in various preseason polls.

The most interesting rule change when it came to the women's side was this...

-If the home team at their home site does not have LED lights on the backboard that light up after a half, then they will be given a technical foul before each game that the lights are not present.

Rush over to your favorite team and make sure they have those lights installed, NOW!!!

Here are the Preseason All-SEC Teams:

First Team:
G DeWanna Bonner- Auburn
G Sha Brooks- Florida
G Cari Chambers- Georgia
F Tasha Humphrey- Georgia
C Sylvia Fowles- LSU
G Armintie Price- Ole Miss
F/C/G Candace Parker- Tennessee
G Dee Davis- Vanderbilt

Second Team:
G/F Navonda Moore- Alabama
F Sarah Pfeifer- Arkansas
G Samantha Mahoney- Kentucky
G Erica White- LSU
F Melanie Johnson- South Carolina
G Alexis Hombuckle- Tennessee
F/C Nicky Anosike- Tennessee
F/C Carla Thomas- Vanderbilt

There you have it, I hope to put together a little something about Kentucky before I head out of town tomorrow afternoon, but if I don't get o it tomorrow with other stuff going on, it will be up at some point this week. Thanks for checking in on She's On Fire from Birmingham. Good Night.
