Friggin Internet

By Jeff Lippman - January 13, 2007

Here I am, sitting in the Duke University, Cameron Indoor media room, and the wireless connection available is not working.

So, there will be no live blogging from this game...BUT. Yes, but, we love buts, don't lie.

There will be a before and after. Welcome to the before.

I have to praise Duke on Cameron, this is my first trip to the storied field house and I must say I am impressed. From the outside it doesn't resemble a basketball stadium at all.

Im sweating already by the way.

Oh, and sitting in press row is like volunteering to be smacked in the back of the head for two hours after every big Duke play. The Cameron Crazies don't care, they're crazy. And I think that is absolutely awesome.

OK, back to the task at hand. The big game.

After splitting the series last year--Duke won both regular season games, Maryland won both postseason contests--Duke-Maryland has become one of the most exciting matchups in women's basketball.

Abby Waner, Alison Bales. Crystal Langhorne, Kristi Toliver. Yeah, there are some big-time players and some big-time coaches. This game is big time. As big as it gets in women's basketball.

Duke is dead set on gaining revenge from the heartbreaking NCAA championship game loss they suffered at the hands of Toliver and Maryland last year.

The title was Duke's. They tasted it. They had scissors in their hands and were bringing the ladders over to the nets when the Toliver's last-second regulation shot went in and fundamentally destroyed all Duke's hopes and dreams.

True, there was still overtime, but Duke had already won, they spent all their effort and Maryland caught fire at the last possible, and most dramatic time.

Do I expect one hell of a game today? Yeah, I should say so.

So Internet or no, I'll be back at the blog in two hours or so, probably with some bruises on the back of my head.

It's gonna be fun.
