Oh, The Weather Outside is Frightful

We should be right in the thick of the Big 12 season, watching opposing defenses bounce off Courtney Paris like toy soliders, but Mother Nature has other plans. Three big games in the past week have had to be rescheduled because of ice storms and "inclement weather" in the Midwest. What Ms. Nature in her infinite wisdom may not have considered, however, is whether this will this give teams more time to prepare or just force overflow from an already brimming schedule?

It started with Oklahoma-Texas Tech last Sunday, for which we will now have to wait until Monday the 22nd. This looked like a much more intruiging matchup when it was scheduled last season, but since the Lady Raiders have dropped out of the top 25 and Oklahoma continues to climb, you have to wonder whether Texas Tech head coach Kristy Curry isn't wondering what might have been had she stayed at Purdue this season. Still, the Raiders are 2-2 in the Big 12 and coming off a solid win over Missouri on Wednesday night, which will only help their confidence against the Sooner machine. If they can contain Paris and get Tech senior guard Chesley Dabbs as hot as her 20-point performance against Mizzou indicates she can be, Curry's squad won't get left out in the cold.

A less lopsided matchip between No. 24 Texas's and top-25 vote-getter Iowa State was bumped from Wednesday to tonight at 7 p.m. This is a real chance for Iowa State to show that although everything may be bigger in Texas one good Cyclone can level a town. Especially after losing their last three to Mizzou, Colorado and Oklahoma State, Iowa State needs a win back serious conference credibility. Below Oklahoma, there's an interesting kind of parity beginning to dawn in the Big 12, and I am looking forward to watching it pan out through the conference season.

In other weather-related casulaties, No. 18 Texas A&M and Colorado will now play in College Station tonight, stalled by this week's ice storm.

Don't worry folks, in all cases, tickets will still be honored. Take that, Father Winter.
