ACC Title Game: Halfway to History

By Jeff Lippman - March 04, 2007

N.C. State finished the half with a buzzer beating pull-up jumper, but let North Carolina get back into this game.

With about three minutes to go in the half, Ivory Latta picked up her third foul and was forced to the bench.

Like boxing, State had the Heels on the ropes.

With Latta riding the pine, however, State began forcing, turning the ball over--they have 12 to the Heels' seven--and Carolina was able to come back and make it close at the half.

For much of the first half State played inspired basketball, as expected, and they were the better team on the floor. The Heels looked sluggish, with only Latta hitting.

After that buzzer beater by Shayla Fields, the halftime score is 27-24 in favor of State.

The 24 points the Tar Heels scored ties a season low set against Duke.

Latta leads the Heels with 10 points, Larkins has six.

For the Pack, Ashley Key has eight points and a lot of heart. Keisha Brown has seven. Khadijah Whittington has a game-high seven rebounds.

After hitting as high as 60 percent of their shots, State is down to 48 percent, but are holding the Heels to just 35.5 percent.

We all knew this was going to be a good game, but N.C. State continues to impress and continues to mystify. I'm just so thankful I can be a small part of what is going on here in Greensboro.
