Austin: Sooners Wake Up, Take Lead

By Jean Neuberger - March 17, 2007

With Courtney Paris on the bench, OU has awakened in a BIG way.

The Sooners have ripped off a 20-5 run, sparking the overwhelming Sooner majority in the stands and giving OU its first lead of the game, 34-27, as we now have 3:30 to go.

The SEMO attack was to stop Courtney Paris, and they've done that for the most part. Sherri Coale though answered with a great counter of her own: Jenna Plumley and Leah Rush. Plumley has been hitting NBA range 3-pointers all game (she has 12 points on 4 long range missiles), while Rush is just shredding the SEMO inside, as the RedHawks struggle to match Rush's combination of power and speed.

The SEMO fans are screaming like mad behind me. One in particular, an elderly man with glasses, has been screaming his head off for the last five minutes at every call the referees have made. He's now started to talk about the refs' mothers....that's a cheap shot. I did not expect this guy to be the most abnoxious fan at the Erwin Center today!

Sherri Coale just smiled for the first time all game....that's a very good sign for the Sooners.
