Austin: WVU Rolls to Halftime Lead

By Jean Neuberger - March 17, 2007

We might have our first upset tonight in the making in Austin.

#11 West Virginia started burning the nets to close the first half, while Xavier continued its shooting woes, and the result is a 13-point Mountaineer lead at the half, 31-18.

Some quick stats at the half.

FG Shooting:
Xavier: 6-25
WVU: 11-32

First thing Xavier Coach Kevin McGuff needs to say at the half: Keep shooting...XU needs to shoot their way out of this miserable slump.

Xavier: 18
WVU: 22

Big reason for the late West Virginia run. The Moutaineers started to take control of the boards, and it's paid off.

FT Shooting:
Xavier: 4-8
WVU: 5-6

Again, shooting slump for XU. Gotta hit the shots that can't be defended.

Xavier: 9
WVU: 7

Ball control by Xavier needs to be a little better, especially from their guards, who have a combined 6 turnovers at the half.

PLAYER OF THE HALF: Chakhia Cole, West Virginia
Cole's shooting just 5-10 from the field, but she leads all players with 15 points and 7 rebounds, and has been the spark in the Mountaineer attack.

Second half is just eight minutes away here in we have an upset on our hands?
