Big XII: Children Unite for CU

By Jean Neuberger - March 06, 2007

It's 75 minutes before the first game between #8 Colorado and #9 Texas Tech gets underway, but CU Head Coach Kathy McConnell-Miller and her Lady Buffs have won the first battle: winning over the throng of elementary school kids who have come to watch the morning session today in Oklahoma City.

The Buffs entered the arena from the southwest corner (where I'm seated), and the excited kids started screaming and waving at the players. The Lady Buffs seem just as excited to be here as their new friends, and instead of heading to their locker room, ran up the arena steps to slap high fives with the kids.

No sign of the Tech players, as CU's players now have ended their first warm-up and walked over to the east side to slap hands with a new group of students, who have single-handedly taken over two sections of this arena.

Tech hasn't hit the court yet, so who knows what they'll do. However, this is a great move by the Lady Buffs. Not only have they made the day for a whole bunch of Oklahoma City kids, they've gotten a nice momentum boost in the process. The smiles on the faces of the Colorado players are hard to ignore.

Tipoff is an hour and 15 minutes away...stay tuned for more from the Cox Convention Center.
