Big XII: Day 3 Set to Begin with ISU - A&M

By Jean Neuberger - March 08, 2007

Welcome back to Day 3 of action at the 2007 Women's Big XII Tournament at Oklahoma City's Cox Convention Center! We've got four teams playing tonight that are NCAA locks, and should make for some really great basketball. Up first tonight is a showdown between Gary Blair and his top-seeded Texas A&M Aggies, and Bill Fennelly's never-say-die Iowa State Cyclones.

Fans are beginning to trickle in, as the two sides are warming up right now on the court.

This should be one fantastic matchup. The Aggies have all the ingredients to win the tournament. After all, they DID win the conference. The usual suspects of Atunrase, Micheaux and Franklin should be primed for this one, as well as Takia Starks and Patrice Reado, who shined yesterday in their win over Colorado.

However, you can never, and I mean never, count out Iowa State. Twice, this team has faced close games at the end that tested their resolve and their character. Twice, the Cyclones passed with flying colors. There is no doubt that Lyndsey Medders will be the center of A&M's attention, but keep your eyes out for Nicky Wieben, who's been tough inside, and Alison Lacey, who's been lethal from the outside. I also am interested to see if Megan Rohovde will break her cold streak offensively and become a total force in this game.

The national anthem has just been played by the A&M band (ISU's players stayed on court for the anthem), and we're getting set to go. The Cyclone crowd has gotten bigger, and it looks like the students who traveled for the men's tourney have shown up here tonight, and they're only adding to the electricity that is flowing through here tonight.

Tip-off is less than seven minutes's the Aggies and Cyclones in the night's opener.
