Big XII: Old School vs. New School

By Jean Neuberger - March 07, 2007

It's halftime in Oklahoma City, with the Sooners leading Texas 33-26. The star of the game so far? How about Jenna Plumley, who came out of nowhere to score nine points in the first half.

Having watched this first half, I've noticed some differences between OU's Sherri Coale (New School) and Texas Coach Jody Conradt (Old School). Here's some of the differences I've noticed...

ATTIRE:
Coale: OU colors all the way...red shirt, black skirt, and the famous Sooner Stillettos
Conradt: Suit all the way...not a glimpse of burnt orange on her anywhere

BENCH TIME:
Coale: Sits on the bench for maybe a grand total of 15 seconds, tops.
Conradt: Stays in her chair unless she sees something seriously wrong with her team.

STALKING THE SIDELINE
Coale: She can wear the paint off of a sideline with how much she paces back and forth
Conradt: Tends to stay up front, but paces back when the ball is on her side of the court.

SUBSTITUTIONS:
Coale: High-fives everyone to the bench
Conradt: Either says nothing, or grabs the player to teach her immediately

REFEREES:
Coale: Chews them out on a bad call
Conradt: Chews them out on a bad call

Ok, so some traits are the same with everyone.

It's an interesting contrast nonetheless to see a legend coach against a recent star in the coaching ranks.
