Big XII: Wrap-Up Part 4 - Coale Ready For Saturday

By Jean Neuberger - March 09, 2007

Championships are just part of the routine for Oklahoma's Sherri Coale, and she'll get a chance to add some jewelry to her collection on Saturday, when the Sooners take on Iowa State.

"I'm proud of our kids, the way we battled," said Coale. "Gritty game, and we did what we had to do down the stretch."

The Sooners were graced with the power of the Paris sisters, and the gritty play of senior guard Kendra Moore and freshman guard Jenna Plumley.

"Point guard play is essential down the stretch," Coale said. "I think Kendra and Jenna handled it. It was not an easy job tonight."

Oklahoma won the game thanks to wearing Baylor down the stretch, and Courtney Paris delivered for the Sooners yet again. Even when she wasn't scoring, she was dishing the rock out to Plumley for lay-ups or Moore for 3-pointers. No doubt, Paris is the glue that holds them together, and that's some pretty strong glue OU has.

So now, Oklahoma faces Iowa State, a team they throttled 69-49 in the regular season.

"I don't think anyone thinks the Big 12 title is a cakewalk, and Iowa State showed that today," said Paris.

"The Big 12 is incredibly tough," said Coale. "There's just great parity. Iowa State is playing for a championship. They come in at what, a five seed? I'm not sure. Is that right? Number five? So obviously a lot of parity up and down."

So no chance of OU overlooking this one. It'll be a madhouse Saturday night in Oklahoma City!
