Dallas: The GW Flag

By Jean Neuberger - March 27, 2007

You've seen the GW mascot, and you've heard the rave reviews of the energetic spirit squad and band. Thanks to GW band member Robert Lintott, we've got one more thing to show: GWU's Old Glory...the women's basketball flag

The flag resides with Lintott, and carries signatures of years of Colonial women's basketball, including GW Coach McKeowan, and each year, the freshman are given the flag to sign. It follows the band everywhere the ladies go.

Here's Lintott with the flag in Dallas (the one time the GW band wasn't smiling, as the game had ended).

And here's McKeowan's signature on the flag as well...

Pretty cool tradition isn't it? One thing's for sure...if some prime talent goes through DC, Lintott's got a valuable piece of Colonial history hanging on his wall.

Thanks to Robert for the pictures...hopefully the Colonial flag waves proudly next year during March Madness.

I'm one of Robs fellow GW band members, and I was with him for the purchase of that flag and all the signatures since then. It's evolved into a great band tradition that bonds the team and the band together, and I think our women's team deserves that kind of recognition and support. On numerous occasions, Coach Joe McKeown has attributed some hard-fought wins to our persistent yelling and cheers of encouragement, and we like to think weve gotten into the heads of a few of our opponents. As a graduating senior, I've seen this team go from great to phenomenal in four years, and I can't wait to see what they will do next year in the tournament (when I will definitely be following them as an alumna!). Thanks for your recognition of the GW band - we really do love our team!
