Dallas: Wrapping Up Purdue-UGA

By Jean Neuberger - March 25, 2007

We're about 10 minutes away from North Carolina and George Washington, and here are some stats and awards for tonight's first game of the Dallas Regional Semifinals.

Stats of Note:

Second Half FG Shooting:
Purdue: 14-24 (58.3%)
Georgia: 11-32 (34.4%)

Boilers stayed hot, Georgia did not.

Second Chance Points:
Purdue: 12
Georgia: 4

Offensive glass good to the Boilermakers

Free Throws:
Purdue: 18-27
Georgia: 11-13

Purdue's interior aggression got them to the FT line, which helped the Boilers in a big way.

Game Awards
MVP - Katie Gearlds, Purdue - 32 points, 9 rebounds without a minute of rest.
Trifecta Award - Gearlds, who was 4-8 from 3-point range
Chairman of the Boards - Surprised? It's Gearlds, with 9 rebounds
Mugger Award - UGA's Ashely Houts, with 6 steals
Lego Award - Danielle Campbell of Purdue, with 3 blocks (UGA as a team had 2)
Benchwarmer Award - Campbell again, who has 11 points in 27 minutes for the Boilers

Quotes of the game:

"We knew Georgia had given us their best shot, and that was all they had. We knew at halftime it was ours." - Gearlds, on Purdue's first half run that cut the Bulldog lead to one at the half.

"I couldn't be prouder of where I am right now than with this team right here," Purdue Coach (and alumnae) Sharon Versyp, when asked about Purdue being in the Elite Eight.
