Duke-NCSU: Big and Hard

By Jeff Lippman - March 03, 2007

There isn't another player in the Atlantic Coast Conference, perhaps the country, who can do what Gillian Goring has done thus far today.

And that is successfully post up Alison Bales and score over her on the low block.

Goring is 3-for-6 for six points and if State can continue to get her the ball down low, not only will the create foul problems for Bales, who has one already, but they will be able to bang with the Blue Devils.

That said, Bales has six points on 2-of-3 shooting, three rebounds and at least one block already.

Lindsey Harding, on the other hand, looks great.

After going 3-for-8 and scoring six points all of yesterday, she's already 2-for-4 with eight points today.

More than that, she just looks much more involved in the offense today. She's handling the ball more, she's driving more and dishing more, with two assists already.

Abby Waner just hit her fourth consecutive three pointer, except the official said her foot was on the line and they waved it off.

It's 31-20 Duke anyway.

Bales just went up for a lay up and was taken out by Goring. Two 6-foot-7 players went crashing to the floor, hard. We're getting reports from the Greensboro weather station of a supposed earthquake.

In other news: There's just something sexy about the Duke cheerleaders. I can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's their SAT scores...
