A Shorter Commute

By Jeff Lippman - June 06, 2007

The Pac-10 conference has announced that the 2009 and 2010 women's basketball tournaments will be moved from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif., to the Galen Center in Los Angeles where Pac-10 school Southern California plays their home games.

The decision to move springs from the tournaments inability to pack the house in the larger HP Pavilion and comes on the heels of the Big East also questioning whether a move to a smaller venue would fill the empty seats.

Beside the appearances of more fans in the stands, this move to USC's Galen Center is most passionately felt by CSTV.com's resident west coaster and West of the Mississippi writer extraordinaire Lara Boyko, who not only is a USC alum, but is also a resident of the City of Angels.

Luckily for Lara, the gas bill on the way to the Pac-10 tournament will be considerably less in 2009 than it will be in 2008.

While the shorter commute for me is one thing, the best part of the announcement is that the Galen Center truly is a premier on-campus facility that runs like a well-oiled machine. Kudos to USC for building a 'court of dreams' and thank you Pac-10 for moving the women's tournament. Fans will not be disappointed.
