Music To My Ears

By Jeff Lippman - November 22, 2007

Happy Thanksgiving from South Florida, where right about now I am so stuffed that I couldn't move any part of my body but my arms, forcing me to write this blog post.

A quick look at the Top 25 scoreboard tonight sees No. 9 Duke doing their thing in paradise at the Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Blue Devils defeated No. 22 Purdue 53-41 with a strong defensive effort.

And I was surprised to find that Jasmine Thomas must have taken my words to heart. The Duke freshman, the topic of my Thursday column this week, led the Blue Devils in scoring with 15 points on 6-for-12 shooting and 2-for-4 from long range.

No. 10 beats No. 14

Oklahoma, the No. 10 team in the nation, won its first game of the season Thursday to improve to 1-2. The Sooners defeated the No. 14 Arizona State Sun Devils, the worst team Oklahoma has played this season.

That is some tough competition. Maryland, Tennessee and now Arizona State. But the Sooners proved they belong that high up in the rankings with a 69-57 romp over the Sun Devils.

What does OU have to be thankful for? The Paris sisters and freshman Danielle Robinson.

Ashley and All-American sister Courtney Paris combined for 37 points and 23 rebounds, with Ashley scoring 21 points herself and Courtney grabbing 19 of the boards.

Robinson? All the freshman, quickly becoming one of Sherri Coale's go-to players, did was score 18 points on 9-for-11 shooting. Not bad for someone playing in only their third collegiate game.
