Amber Alert

Has anybody seen what's been going on down in Murfreesboro, Tenn.?

While the Lady Raiders of Middle Tennessee State flounder to stay above .500 with a record of 9-8, their lone bright spot is shining brighter than almost any other player in the nation.

Senior guard/forward Amber Holt is leading the country in scoring with an incredible average of 26.6 points per contest, a full two points more than Utah Valley State's Robyn Fairbanks.

Holt is absolutely carrying her Lady Raider teammates as the next closest scorer on Middle Tennessee is sophomore forward Brandi Brown with 8.3 points a game.

You would think that all opposing defenses have to do is shut Holt down and the Raiders would be easily beaten, except no team has been able to shut Holt down yet this season.

Holt went blow-for-blow with Tennessee's Candace Parker, scored 28 points and ended up on the losing end. But still, Parker has a lot more to work with around her. In MTSU's biggest win of the season, against a Sylvia Fowles-less LSU team, Holt poured in 41 points to secure the win.

Last season, Middle Tennessee finished 30-4 and that was because the then-junior Holt was teamed up with Chrissy Givens, the team's point guard and scorer of 22.5 points per game last year. Holt has more than made up for the scoring, improving from the 16.7 she dropped last year, but the team just can't make up for the loss at the PG spot.

That should not underscore, however, the incredible effort that Holt brings night in and night out. You are looking at a bona fide future WNBA superstar in the making.
