Oklahoma State Gets The White Out

By Jeff Lippman - March 29, 2008

It was obvious watching Oklahoma State play LSU that the Tigers were simply physically superior.

Were it not for Andrea Riley over the first few minutes, LSU would have been shutting out the overmatched Cowgirls.

And to make things worse, the one thing LSU needed to become even more dangerous, the emergence of point guard Erica White's scoring talents, happened. White led the Tigers in scoring with 18 points and that total isn't as high as it should be. In the first half, White, usually the team's assist person, was looking for her shot. She would weave inside defenders and have open layups, but several rimmed out. In the second half, they started to drop.

The Tigers led from the opening tip and took the game 67-52. Riley scored 26 points for a game high but only shot 9-for-28 from the field. The LSU defense was obviously frustrating her down the stretch.

It was a very balanced effort from LSU. And that is something that wasn't always the case during the regular season. If the Tigers get scoring from unexpected places, like White and RaShonta LaBlanc, who scored 13, they gain an extra advantage that wasn't with them in the last few Final Fours.

Sylvia Fowles was herself, scoring 12 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. And Ashley Thomas finished with five points to go with 12 boards.

The win puts the Tigers one step closer to Tampa where they would be making their fifth consecutive Final Four. Only top-seeded North Carolina, who disposed of Louisville today, stands in Van Chancellor's way now.

And after watching his Tigers blossom in this postseason and get to this point, you have to believe that Chancellor likes his chances against the Tar Heels.
