KINGSTON, RI - He was one of two Houston guards to play 45 minutes on the night, but the only one who played so hard - and scored so much (33 points) - that he began cramping in the post-game press conference. That was some 40 minutes after the horn had sounded on the Cougars pulsating 102-99 OT win over Rhode Island.
On this night, Robert “Fluff” McKiver, was anything but the ‘soft’ his nickname might suggest. The former Providence guard and New Haven, Conn.-native was hard, fast and oh-so-steady for the No. 7 Cindex-ranked Cougars.

KINGSTON, RI - An absolutely wild finish to an absoultely wild game has seen CSTV.com Cindex No. 7 survive its trip to Rhode Island, with a 102-99 win.
Houston's Oliver Lafayette swished home a 30-foot 3-pointer from in front of the Cougar bench with no time left on the clock to give the visitors the win.
A stunned Ryan Center crowd of 4,020 watched as their Rams stumbled down the stretch of regulation and were then outlasted in the extra period. McKiver finished with 33, Malone with 25 and Lafayette with 20 for the Cougars.
Jimmy Baron led Rhode Island's balanced scoring attack with 19.

KINGSTON, RI - A furious finish to regulation, including an Oliver Lafayette put-back with :01 remaining in the game, sent this contest in overtime, with the game tied 90-90.
Some costly mistakes by the Rams down the stretch, allowed Houston to come back.
The game went back and forth at warp speed for the final four minutes as Houston fought and fought to take the lead, missing three at-the-rim putbacks with under a minute to go, which would have given the Cougars their first lead of the second half.
With the Rams up 88-86 and :30 remaining, Houston 's Oliver Lafayette drove the lane and missed a lay-up that would have tied the game. Kahiem Seawright was fouled at the other end and hist both his free throws with 18.4 seconds remaining to give Rhody a four point lead.
Ronald McKiver was then fouled bringing the ball up by Joe Mbang with 14.1 seconds remaining and calmly hit his two free throws to cut the lead to two. It was Mbang's fifth foul - not to mention his most-ill advised of the night. On the ensuing out of bounds play, URI committed a violation, giving the ball back to Houston with the same 14.1 on the clock.

KINGSTON, RI - Robert McKiver returned to New England tonight and the Connecticut native has been reminding the locals what they're missing out on after his transfer from Providence College. With under four minutes left in the game, McKiver has 30 points, including 7 of 11 from 3-point land. He laso has six assist and four rebounds.
Heading into the final stretch, Rhode Island maintains a three point lead (82-79), but the way McKiver has been coming on late in the second half, it seems all but certain that the game will come down to him. Rhode Island has played inspired ball all night and the new Runnin' Rams style is finding favor with the Ryan Center faithful.

KINGSTON, RI - Quite a game here at the Ryan Center, as Rhode Island has been able extend and now, maintain it’s halftime lead - barely.
With 12:11 left in the game, URI leads 59-57.
Rhode Island extended its halftime lead to eight with 18 minutes left in the first half and then, following an old-fashioned three-point play by Bitee, went up 55-45 with 16:10 left. McKiver answered with a three to make it 55-48.

KINGSTON, RI - Underdog Rhode Island has shown moxie through the first half of play, and holds a 45-40 lead over the favored Houston Cougars at the break.
Remarkably, URI had a dozen turnovers in the first half (to five for Houston), but shot 50 percent from 3-point land. Houston shot 36 percent form beyond the arc.

KINGSTON, RI - Not much need for the shot clock in this one. Both Houston and the new-look Runnin’ Rams like to run the floor and put up shots - especially three-pointers.
Houston’s Oliver Lafayette started out with two 3s in the first four minutes for the Cougars, the second of which was answered by Jimmy Baron with a three of his own. Rhody led 9-7 at the first TV Timeout.
URI came out very fired up on both ends of the floor and their trapping pressure seemed to have an early affect on Houston. At the under-12:00 media timeout, URI led, 19-15.
Rhody attempted six 3-pointers (making three) in the game’s first eight minutes, while Houston tried nine (also making three).

KINGSTON, RI - Houston began shooting around on both ends of the Ryan Center floor at about 5:40 with the song that is quickly becoming the anthem of the college hoops season blaring from the sound system: Jay-Z’s “Show Me What You Got.”
It’s both a Budweiser theme and an incredibly catchy tune.
Rhode Island began shooting around at 6 p.m., at which time Houston began running lanes on its side of the court. Both teams then began stretching on their respective sides of the floor.

KINGSTON, RI - The ride down I-95 from Boston was foggy to start and clear to finish, with an early arrival at the home of the Rhode Island Rams.
We’re about 75 minutes from tip at the Ryan Center between URI and Houston and we’ve been able to take in the pre-game Ramette Dance Team practice from our center court position (once again confirming the early bird does, indeed, get the worm).

The Glass Sneaker sprints down Interstate 95 for this evening’s game between CSTV.com’s Cindex No. 7, Houston (from Conference USA) and host, Rhode Island (Atlantic 10).
We should be in the arena about an hour before the 7 p.m. (EST) tip, but wanted to give you a little appetizer before dinner time. We had prepared this little dish during our C-USA media day extravaganza and never had the time to properly write it up. So, without further ado, a Glass Sneaker peek-in with Houston coach, Tom Penders.
